The scientists were having a great time in their new laboratory. They had plenty of experiments going on.
Scott, Athos and Elder Camarillo were trying to find something that would replace the willow bark as a pain reliever. The witches were doing the same thing but with their potions and herbs.
They were using Toby as the their test subject. He was sore all the time from all the work he was doing.
Toby came in one day holding his head. "Please Mrs. Kylie make this pain go away." He asked me.
"What did they give you this time?" I asked.
"I don't rightly know but it tasted awful."
"How do you want me to make the pain go away?" I asked.
"With your blood Ma'am." He whispered.
"My blood? Is it that bad?"
"Yes Ma'am. It is. The Masters gave me something this morning. The Ladies this afternoon. I can not take anymore of their experiments."
"I see." I looked at him. He was squinting his eyes. "Do your eyes hurt Toby?"
"Yes Ma'am. They feel like they are going to fall out." Toby said holding his head again.
"All right sit in the chair and lean your head back. I am going to put a little bit in each eye."
"Oh thank you Ma'am."
I sliced open my finger and let two drops fall into each eye. He moaned softly.
"Oh Ma'am that feels so much better." He went to stand up.
"Wait a few minutes Toby to make sure it worked."
"Yes Ma'am."
I made him sit for ten minutes letting my blood relieve the pressure behind his eyes. He opened his eyes slowly. " I can see clear now. Thank you Mrs. Kylie."
"You are welcome Toby. I will let the Masters know that they need to find another test subject."
"I hope they will not be angry."
"They have no reason to be Toby."
"Yes Ma'am."
I followed Toby back out to his shop then I went to see the scientists in their laboratory.
"Well Hello Kylie. What brings you here?" Athos asked.
"Well Toby does."
"Toby?" Athos questioned me.
"Yes I had to give him some of my blood so that his eyes would go back into his head. They were bulging out. What are you doing to the man?"
"We only gave him a peppermint stick this morning it should not have done anything to him." Scott said. "Just settle his stomach if anything."
"What did the Mullins give him?"
"The Mullins. I do not know."
"You know they have been giving him potions too?" I told them.
"Oh dear we did not know they were using him too." Elder Camarillo said.
"Of course they are. He is their manservant."
"You are right. We will have to find someone else."
"Tell the Mullins Please."
"Yes Kylie we will."
"Thank you."
The Mullin witches were not pleased that their test subject refused to be tested on anymore.
