An hour later the smell of the skunk grew increasingly strong. The mortals had found what they were tracking.
We found them the next morning at the river wrapped up in their blankets with their clothes hanging in the trees.
"I hope we did not disturb last night. We met a skunk when we went looking for our weed." Benoit said turning dark red.
"No we were all very tired last night." Shaun said.
"Good." Marcel said moving closer to the fire.
"If you follow the trail it will take you to the small town at the three river junction." Shaun told them.
"You are not going to the town?" Marcel asked.
"No we live north of the river junction. We will be parting ways now."
"We have enjoyed traveling with you." Benoit said.
"You were right safety in numbers." Marcel said.
We had not been bothered by the natives in the area according to the mortals. We had asked for safe passage before we left for Fort Rouille.
We found the shallow part of the river and crossed it with the wagons. We were home two days later.
Darin showed everyone his trade. He erected the tepee in the main square. The Councils loved it.
He had it setup near the waterfalls. He moved his bed and other items from his room into it and started living in his tepee.
To everyone it made perfect sense to have someone in the main square. Darin proved to be a light sleeper thou after a few days we found him sleeping on the floor in his old room in his parents' quarters.
Melissa became slower and slower in her activities. Every time Colleen looked at her she would have to turn away to hide her tears. She knew she did not have long.
Gen became very active in wanting a small trading post at the cave. Where everyone could trade items with other cave residents. We already do that but she wanted some place central for all the trading.
At dinner two weeks after our return Shaun told us that there was reports of two men trying to sell night creatures tracking devices to the local townspeople.
"Has anyone bought one yet?" Paddy asked.
"Yes Hugo and Curtis did they were shown how to track various creatures with a drop of blood on the clock face."
"Oh? Where did the blood come from?" John asked.
"From their large supply of it. They had vials of blood clearly marked with different creatures. They would pour a small amount into a smaller vial if they wanted more than one vial of something it was extra. So Hugo had one of werewolf and Curtis had his filled with vampire blood."
"Have they tried their pocket watches yet?" Quinn asked.
"Yes Hugo found bears and Curtis found beavers."
We laughed.
"Now we know how they work?" Shaun said.
"Did you tell them Grandpa, what we did?" Quinn asked.
"Yes but it was after they had come back with the bear and beaver."
"They understood?" Quinn asked.
"Oh yes it was the reason they had bought them in the first place they wanted to make sure they did not work."
"I wonder where they found blood from all those creatures?" I asked.
"Good question I think we will send Zeus down to find out. He is always good at finding out things like that."
