The sound of the falling rain stomping on my roof reminded me of her voice, singing Set fire to the Rain. I had no idea she could sing, but it is wrong to think that about people you just met.
Her voice wasn't amazing, she was trying to make it sound like Adele as much as she could, and she nailed it. I wonder if she can sing Let it go too... Which part of her looks like Elsa?!
"Jimmy! Come here!"
"Did you bring me candy?"
"No! Why do you think she looks like Elsa?"
"She has that look in her eyes that seem like she can really let everything go and build ice castles and snowmen!"
"Jimmy, how old are you?"
"Eight and a half. Why?"
"Why can you even think about such things?"
"Dunno, maybe because I'm smarter than you?" and he ran away.
"Come back, you Frozen fan! Did you manage to enter high school? No, then you have no right to tell me such things!" and I ran after him down the stairs and Mary and her older twin sister were just entering in the living room. My mom greeted them all and told them to sit on the sofa. As our eyes met, horror sprinkled in my guts and I ran back upstairs and heard Jimmy giggling as he kept calling Mary Elsa.
Brunette Elsa. Who thought of that in the first place? The Frozen fandom is unexpectedly vast.
I changed my T-shirt and got back downstairs, smiling like nothing happened. And I looked at her. Her eyes really seemed like Elsa's, even though they weren't blue.
She held my stare less than a minute then started talking to Jimmy.
"Can you sing Le'go?"
"Let it go? Why?"
"Because you're Elsa. You should know it, no?"
"Of course I know it. What kind of Elsa would I be if I didn't?"
I wanted to hear it. I went to the piano in the corner of the living room.
"Let me accompany you."
"Um..." she was hesitant. Maybe she didn't want to sing in front of this many people.
Thankfully, her sister went with my mother in the kitchen to prepare the dinner, and her husband went with my father to check out his garage or something. I started playing.
She looked solemnly at Jimmy. And started singing with Elsa's voice: "The snow glows white on the mountain tonight, not a footprint could be seen; a kingdom of isolation, and it looks like, I'm the queen. The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside... I couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I tried...Don't let them in, don't let them see, be the good girl you always have to be! Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know... Well now they know! Let it go! Let it go! Can't hold it back anymore! Let it go! Let it goo! Turn away and slam the door!" she started gaining confidence. So did Elsa.
"It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small, and the fears that once controlled me, can't get to me at all! It's time to see what I can do, to test the limits and break through, No right, no wrong, no rules for me... I'm free!"
"Elsa! Elsa!" Jimmy continued on screaming.
"Let it go! Let it go! I'm one with the wind and sky, Let it go! Let it goo! You'll never see me cry! Here I stand and here I'll stay, Let the storm rage on..." she got up and started mimicking Elsa.
"My power flurries through the air into the ground! My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around! And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast! I'm never going back, the past is in the past!" I could see it. Her ice castle. "Let it go! Let it go! And I'll rise like the break of dawn, Let it go! Let it goo! The perfect girl is gone! Here I stand in the light of day! Let the storm rage on! The cold never bothered me anyway."
- Mary -
Why did I just do?! How could I let myself loose and sing Let it go?! Oh, sure now they'll think I'm crazy. Stupid, he even accompanied me.
"Arthur, you were almost going to break the piano!" his father laughed.
"That's not true! This is how you use a piano, Dad!"
Arthur. That was it. I'll never forget it.
