"Sathya, help me put these curries on the table," said Amma.

"Yes," I began helping her in the kitchen as he and Appa came to the dining table claiming their seats. He was gazing at me with a little grin and I tried hard to avoid his eyes.

"Did you get a good sleep, Bala?" asked my Appa

"Yes, of course, Appa. It feels great," he answered while skimming at me. I looked away flushed, I know what he meant. We all sat down to have food.

"I have very big news," said the doctor. Both Appa and Amma looked at each other perplexed, I am sure they misunderstood. "It's, Sathya, has passed the medical entrance exam and secured the first seat in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College," he said with great enthusiasm.

"WHAT!" my parents froze astonished. I beamed at them extremely proud. My Amma couldn't believe it and my Appa's eyes started overflowing with tears.

"Appa?" I called, worried.

"I am-- I am ok-ma, it's just, I am so happy. I wanted to speak with Bala about this. I know you were forced to marry my daughter, just like her. I raised both of my daughters giving them everything they wished, including the freedom to dream. I wished to see them with a successful life, just like they yearned for. Suriya left us ahead taking a harsh decision in her life and Sathya had to pay the consequences. I failed to guard her dream, I thought. I was ready to beg you to let her chase the life she desired. But you surprised me. I don't know how to thank you, Bala. I am grateful to you till my death for treating my daughter as exemplary as she deserves. As a father, I am thankful to have you as my son-in-law." Appa's words touched my heart and I can't stop crying. My husband secretly grabbed my hand and tightly held it.

"What are you saying, old man? Stop making them cry! We are having food," My Amma wiping her tears said.

"Appa, I know what situation got me and Sathya together. And I am well aware that, it is hard for both of us to adjust. Throughout my life, I have seen many people -couples- and their life. Some are a mess and some are examples. Sathya is the most beautiful and important person in my life now, she is my wife and I respect her as a person. She is very determined and ambitious. How can I call myself her husband if I can't see her dreams and likes? I am the one who needs to stay by her side, so I am not going to ignore those. I will always be by her side and become her special one behind every success. Because I love her." he smiled softly and sunny at my parents. My heart beats raised to the point it said, "Too embarrassing". Appa smiled widely and Amma began crying. It was a sweet and sour dinner.

While washing the plates; "Sathya, when you were born, your father was so happy but others told him, two daughters will make his life miserable. He scowled at them and proudly raised you. When he had no other choice but to marry you off instead of your sister, he cried all night, nonstop like on the night your brother perished. When you called him crying, he was ready to come there and bring you back. But after hearing Mappilai speak like this about you, I am so happy. Just like others say, my Sathya is so lucky," Amma hugged me weeping. My Amma is proud of me, it's like a dream. I feel accomplished. I went back to the room with a heart full of bliss. I know he is waiting for me, I know what will happen next when we meet inside. I can't let go of this chilling feeling inside my body like frozen inside and heated outside.

"Doctor, are you asleep?" I asked as I entered.

"Do you really think I can fall asleep after what you did to me?" he replied folding his book and removing his glasses. I reddened. "I didn't do anything, it was you," I murmured.
