Jealousy
Again, days passed. Today, I feel as though time is moving faster and faster for me, which is unsettling. I don't want to live my life more quickly; instead, I want to savour each time with the doctor gently and fully. After our brief break, I began attending college.
"Jessy, this is our final year, shouldn't go on some trips? I wish we could go somewhere. I think I should ask the doctor," I said as I rested my head on her shoulder.
"What? you never had a honeymoon," she was shocked
"No, we both are busy so we didn't,"
"Now that's sad... Bala-chettan was always a quiet one. I think you should ask about the honeymoon," a male sound other than Hari's interrupted our conversation. It was our new substitute professor Dr Jaleel Muhammed. We were perplexed. "I didn't mean to hear, it was an accident. After hearing from Dr Varky Sir, that you are Bala-chettan's wife, I wanted to talk with you Sathya," he smiled. Jaleel sir is a very young-looking, tall and handsome man who stole almost every girl's heart on our campus. He is unmarried for sure.
"It's ok sir, what do you want to speak with me?" I asked
"Are you free now?"
"Yes, classes are over anyway, I was waiting for the doctor,"
"It's kind of something secret that I only wish to discuss with you. If you don't mind can we talk alone?" he asked blushing and hesitant.
"Why not?" I said as I glanced at Jessy.
"Oh-seri, njan poyekavee... (Oh yes, I'll leave)" Jessy left, leaving us alone.
"Sathya, walk with me," he smiled and I followed him. I am curious about the matter he wants to speak about.
"You know that I am working on a special PhD from a medical university in the USA, I want some help from Bala-chettan on that." He was embarrassed of asking me that. He is attractively blushing so shyly. I laughed.
"Is that all, Sir? I thought you were gonna ask me something deadly serious. I was curious and scared. What is your topic?" I inquired.
"In our college days, Bala-chettan did a paper on viruses that are hidden inside animals and birds and can be deadly and hazardous for humans. He explained about some from our locality. He spoke of a special group of bats then. He said he studied them from his village and local natural physicians. I am doing PhD related to that, so I want to get full details about those. I know I can just ask Bala-chettan straightly but we were never friends, you know, like close. So I was wondering if you could give him a heads up and I can visit you in your home or his office whenever he is free," he explained his full strategy and needs, very neatly.
"Sir, I will talk with the doctor on this, but I think you should ask him straight. He is free on Sundays, so why don't you come home? I will give you the address and phone number," I smiled and gave him my number and address.
"Thank you so much, Sathya. When I first heard you are his wife, I was shocked. Was it an arranged marriage?" he asked
"It was something like that," I smiled
"Is he treating you well? I am so questioning his personality or anything suspicious. I know Bala-chettan will never act cruel, he is always someone whom I respect, it's just people change. How is your married life with him, even though I can understand he treats you well and cares for you just by seeing him glaring t me from over there? It's kind of scary," he stated awkwardly. That's when I saw the doctor standing in front of his car, gazing at us from a distance. I waved my hand happily
