Afterwards

Years after, present, 2023. In a hospital.

"There you go, you are strong like the Hulk. Now you can fly anywhere, Smash anything,"

"Doctor, I am going to become the strongest man in this world," a child who just finished his heart surgery said.

"Of course, you can become anything if you believe in yourself and are ready to work hard for it. See your parents are smiling, they will always stand with you,"

"Yes," the boy grinned broadly.

"Doctor... Sathya Ma'am, Is your shift over?" asked a nurse.

"Yes, I am leaving. Call me if you need me,"

"Doctor, did you get a new haircut? Short hair suits you well." a young nurse complimented

"Thank you, Sara," I am Sathya Balakrishna, 44 years old, a mother of three and a cardiac surgeon. It took me years to reach this height. Time and patience is a key to success. As I walked past, I can hear many respectfully greeting me. My life changed and I am the one who changed it. However, one thing never changes. I walked out of the hospital to the parking.

"Did you wait long, doctor?" I asked the man who stood in front of a car, along with a young teenage girl in school uniform.

"No, we just got here. How was your day?" that calm demeanour and soft smile are still the same.

"Fine, It was good as usual," I smiled. After all these years nothing about me and him changed, our love is the same.

"Guys! Aren't you forgetting your cute daughter?" fed up seeing your romance, our youngest Banu Balakrishna, a higher secondary school student who entirely inherited my sassiness commented.

"Sorry-ma, let's go home," I said pinching her cheek.

"Appa! Can we buy a chocolate cake on the way," she asked enthusiastically.

"No, you will throw up. We have to leave this night to my home," I said like a strict mother, which I inherited from my mother.

"Ma? Appa, please... I got high marks in Maths," she pouted. She surely knows how to coax my husband. And he is weak to his children begging anyway. He glanced at me; "Huh! fine." I replied. It's my Akka's eldest daughter Maya's marriage. So we are leaving today.

"Anna called, he says he will do a video call once we reach Sivagiri," she said swiping on her phone. Huh! The world has changed, a lot more than we anticipated.

"What about Saranya? Call her and ask when is her train. She could have taken a flight," remarked the doctor.

"She said she will come with her friend on the train," I said checking my phone through my second daughter's messages. Sai decided to take our steps and he went UK to study, Jessy who works there helped us. She married a businessman and settled there with her family. My first abroad travel was to her marriage. Hari is working in a famous hospital in Delhi. He also broke every traditional norm and married a beautiful Manipuri girl. He is a well-known orthopedist. Our second daughter Saranya Balakrishna is pursuing her dream to be a nurse in Bengaluru. She is a female version of doctor. I am blessed with a great family. Even though time passes and light fades, we will be together till the end. Everyone I met in this long journey has accomplished big achievements and found happiness. Life is indeed a lesson.

"Doctor, promise you will be with me to death," I asked once

"What are you saying? Only till death? I promise to be with you even after," he replied. Yes, some promises are made between souls thus it engraved deep and live eternally.
