As I was writing this, I realised Carlisle had given Jake morphine which can be taken through injections, but I had already written the whole IV scene😃 But then I also realised he said he would come back to set up a drip so ig it worked out in the end and meant Carlisle didn't have to come back cuz Ed had already done it for him. Slay.

And thank you to everyone who left lovely comments on the last chapter, I deeply appreciate it and it was very reassuring💜💜💜

The pack called Billy when they were in the car carrying Jacob home to let him know what had happened.

Carlisle had gone straight over to Billy's — running there being faster — to reset Jacob's bones and asked Edward to go home to bring back bandages and the IV drip. He had gotten the supplies for Bella in case anything was to happen and they had to provide emergency care at home.

Edward had run home at break-neck speed to gather the equipment, grabbed the highest dosage of medication, and used his Aston Martin V12 Vanquish to drive to Billy's — seeing as he couldn't carry all the supplies in hand. He was grateful that he didn't get stopped for speeding.

There was no point in connecting Jacob to the IV when re-breaking the bones, so Jacob had to endure the re-breaking and wait for the pain relief afterwards.

When Edward arrived, he saw the pack waiting outside the house with Billy and Sue, but Sam was inside to hold Jacob down.

"It's ok, Jake, I'm right here," Edward said, rushing into the bedroom with the IV drip in hand and fumbling to set it up as quickly as possible.

Edward quickly but gently removed everything from Jacob's desk and set it on the floor with care to make way for the equipment. He sanitized the surface with alcohol wipes and washed his hands in the bathroom. He rushed back into the bedroom and frantically took the supplies out of the container to lay the SASH out on the desk, ready to set up and use.

Their smiling faces on the printed-out photographs stared at him above the desk as he worked.

The snap and crunch of bones were so distinct in the humid air, and the screams ringing through the small house almost made Edward want to cover his ears from the pain it made him feel. It was like his own frozen heart was shattering like Jacob's bones.

"It'll be over soon, Jake. Just hang in there," Edward rasped out, his hands trembling as he removed the plastic wrap and plunged the air bubbles out of the prefilled syringes, the saline liquid dripping to the carpeted floor.

He didn't know if he was trying to comfort Jacob or himself. Maybe both.

"Edward," Carlisle called softly to his son behind him, sensing his stress. "Take a deep breath, and calm yourself. Remember your training. He'll pull through. He will heal," he soothed as best as he could before bracing himself to snap one of Jacob's ribs back into place.

Sam held Jacob in place as Jacob arched away from the vampire's touch. Jacob howled in misery at the pure burning pain that followed.

But Edward pushed through, taking depth breaths and swallowing the lump in his throat before placing the cap back onto the last syringe and putting it on the desk for later.
