"Seattle Is in a state of terror. Police are baffled by the escalating murders and disappearances," the news reporter stated on the TV, Carlisle, Jasper, and Emmet sat around watching it intently. "Theories range from a vicious new gang to a wildly active serial killer. Reporting live-" Carlisle switched the TV off when Edward, Bella and Jacob walked into the sitting room.
"It's getting worse. We're going to have to do something," Carlisle said, unsettled.
"It takes more than one of our kind to cause the damage they're reporting," Jasper implied knowingly. "Quite a few more. And they're undisciplined, conspicuous."
"It's newborns," Edward declared with a frown, reading Jasper's mind.
"What, like new vampires?" Bella asked with furrowed brows.
"In the first few months after the change," Edward elaborated, shuffling closer to Jacob at his side.
"That's when we're at our most uncontrollable. Vicious... Insane with thirst," Jasper explained further with an intense look of hatred.
"Something to look forward to," Emmet joked with eagerness. Bella attempted a smile, but it just turned out as a grimace. Jacob managed a light chuckle.
"No one's trained these newborns, but this isn't random," Jasper said to Carlisle with conviction.
"Someone's creating an army," Carlisle concluded.
"Well, now we're definitely going to Seattle," Emmet smirked, getting up off the couch and hopping down.
"An army of vampires?" Bella repeated with dread.
"And they've been created to fight someone," Jasper confirmed darkly.
"We're the only clan even close to Seattle," Edward voiced incredulously. Bella looked to him with worry.
"Regardless of why they were made, if we don't put a stop to them, the Volturi will," Carlisle said, Jacob shivering at the thought. "I'm surprised they've let it go on for this long," Carlisle sighed.
"Well, maybe they're behind it," Edward opposed, placing a gentle hand on the small of Jacob's back. "In Italy, I read Aro's mind. He wants me and Alice to join him, but he knows we'll never choose him as long as our family's still alive," he sounded his theory.
"An army could solve that for him," Jasper agreed, clenching his jaw.

Jacob took Edward out to La Push again upon request, this time heading a little further out to the marshlands. The flat land submerged in water and spread out for miles, the mountain range reflecting in the water with grass peeking out.
"It's beautiful here," Edward breathed out in awe, walking alongside Jacob as his golden eyes roamed the vastness, taking it all in. "Alice has planned a big graduation party, which you're invited to, of course," he said after a moment of appreciation, turning his head to look at Jacob with a smile.
Jacob did not respond.
Something was wrong.
"Jacob? What is it?" Edward asked abruptly, quickly turning his whole body around and stepping closer to the other to give Jacob his full attention.
Jacob froze. He swallowed thickly.
"Why did you kiss me?" Jacob asked quietly.
Edward blinked.
"... Because I love you."
Jacob took a deep breath at the admission.
"Even after... you heard the tribe's stories? Heard what happened?" Jacob asked, flicking his eyes up and down over Edward's form.
"... Is this what that was about?" Edward questioned sharply. "Why you took me to that meeting? To get me to stop liking you?" Edward rattled on with anger.
"Did it work?" Jacob joked dryly with a quirked brow.
"Not even close?" Edward hissed back.
Edward got the feeling that it wasn't entirely the reason Jacob took him to that meeting. He sighed.
" Jacob... you're my best friend," he whimpered. "If anything, it just gave me a better understanding of you," he shrugged dejectedly.
"This is insane," Jacob scoffed, pivoting around and pressing his palm over his face.
"I love you, Jacob," Edward said simply, standing there, just watching Jacob turn away from him to take deep breaths in aggravation. "And I know you liked it too. The kiss, I mean."
Jacob spun around to face the still vampire. "I don't like you! " Jacob emphasised.
Edward's bottom lip quivered. He looked like he was about to cry.
Jacob sighed heavily.
"Listen, leech. Everything that happened before — between me, you, Bella? — It's over. It's done," Jacob waved his arms around dramatically as he spoke, enunciating his words harshly. "I don't care about it anymore. I made peace with it long ago." Jacob stepped up to Edward, gripped his arms imploringly. "You're my best friend, too. I care about you so much. But whatever this infatuation with me is-"
"Infatuation?" Edward snapped, cutting Jacob's sentence off. He smacked Jacob's hands off him. "Bella was an infatuation," he corrected, fuming. "She drew me in, got me curious, and I ended up getting tangled into something I shouldn't have," Edward seethed furiously.
But then he looked into Jacob's watery eyes, those damned dark eyes that got Edward weak at the knees. And it was like he was hit in the face by a truck with the suddenness of his mood swing.
"But you-" Edward whispered tenderly.
"No," Jacob shot down, turning his head away.
"Sweet-" Edward stepped closer.
"No," Jacob stepped back.
"Beautiful-" Edward stepped in again, closing the distance.
"No."
"Caring, funny, smart Jacob," Edward smiled affectionately. He lifted his hand up, carding his fingers through Jacob's soft raven hair. "My Jacob."
"No no no," Jacob whined, shaking his head defiantly. "I'm not doing this with you."
"I know you're scared. I am too... But whatever we have to deal with, we can do it together." Edward leaned in, only seconds away from a kiss. "We're already halfway there," he whispered to Jacob's lips.
Jacob pulled his head back, stared into Edward's liquid gold eyes. His heart thundered in his chest.
"There is no we."
