We have lived in the shadows since the dawn of time itself, fearing what would happen if we were discovered by the mortals. Over the centuries some have been fool-hearty enough to venture out on their own and expose us to the mortals, and well i am sure you can guess what happened to them.
Finally, fifty years ago the elders, the oldest and wisest of us, decided that our populations had grown to large to hide any longer. They called for a press conference, inviting reporters from all over the world, and right there on the stage the elder wolves changed, the demons showed their magic, the fae stripped away their glamours, and the vampires showed off their fangs.
I am sure you can guess how the mortals reacted to the idea that the stuff of fairy tales and their nightmares is real. Chaos broke out across the world, mortals began turning to their fairy tales searching for ways to wipe us out. Friends and neighbors began accusing each other of being one of us, fighting and killing each other needlessly.
War broke out across the world, the immortals against mortals, slaughtering each other on the battlefields, in the suburbs and cities. The mortals were furious that their legends and fairy tales were bullshit, a stake through the heart doesnt just kill vampires it kills any and everyone, silver may burn but not enough to kill a werewolf, demons are tricky bastards that are almost impossible to pin down long enough to kill, and no excorsims dont work. The fae may be hurt by iron and silver, but they don't die. The leaders of the world finally realized they needed to step in and end the violence, mortals were dying in drones. Out of the two million killed only five hundred thousand were supernatural.
After two years of violence that nearly ripped the world apart, the united nations finally asked the elders to sit down and discuss peace. Many countries agreed to set down laws and guidelines that immortals had to follow for the protection of everybody, which the elders from those countries readily agreed too, only caring about ending the slaughtering. The americans worried that the laws being put forth by the rest of the world were to lenient and to easy to break, so their leaders came up with a different solution: reservations. Immortals were to be moved to reservations, one per state, where they would be given all of the resources needed to survive and thrive but were not permitted to leave without special permission. If an immortal was caught outside of their reservation without permission then they were automatically the property of the U.S government and were taken away to special prisons.
The elders for all but the fae agreed, seeing no other way out of the bloodshed and believing that the immortals they represented would be taken care of well and be safe. The elders of the fae did not agree, saying it would trap them, as they are creatures strongly connected to nature and would not be contained. The fae, sadly, in america have either faded away into nothingness or hidden so well that they can not be found, no one is for certain.
For fifty years this is how the world has worked, the immortals living practically free every where but the U.S, and those of us stuck in america praying that one day we can be as free as the rest, but to scared to try and fight back.
