We spent the rest of the day at the bookstore, all of us lost in our own little worlds, completely engrossed in our books. Even andy enjoyed his captain underpants and went on to read the next book in the series in the same day, much to mary's chagrin.
Mary finally forced us out of the shop around nightfall. Andy and i headed back to the pack house where we caught up a little bit with ally and mark, explaining about where we had been for the day and they told us about helping out alissa send out the spies and such, before heading off to bed.
The next week was spent mostly at Mary's bookstore where i was, so far successfully, avoiding alissa. I know that andy said she didnt actually blame me but her hate spewed words still filled my head and i just couldnt bring myself to face her just yet.
On the sixth day of me hiding from alissa, andy and i got up early and got dressed before heading down to the kitchens to grab breakfast just like every other day. Sadly though my little game of cat and mouse with the alpha was finally over.
Alissa was sitting at the kitchen island when we arrived there on saturday morning, She had a cup of what smelled like tea in her hands and a somber look on her face.
When we walked into the room she looked up at us and i froze. After a moments awkward silence i decided it was probably best to speak first, "hey"
"Hey. hows it going?" alissa asked with a weak smile.
"Andy's read all of the captain underpants books, mary is finally letting him move on to magic treehouse books" i joked, lamely.
The corners of her mouth lifted up a little more than before, "are we sure he can handle those? There's alot of big words and facts in them?"
"Hey! Im right here you know!" andy said, with mock outrage.
Alissa and i both laughed, officially alleviating the awkward tension from the room. "So what are you two up too?" she asked.
"Just headed to Mary's for the day, we've kinda been camped out there all week" i shrugged, heading over to the coffee pot. I grabbed me a mug out of the top cupboard and poured me a cup, inhaling the rich scent. I have no idea how i managed to survive all that time in the woods without the deliciousness of hot bean juice.
"Be careful, xander carrow made the coffee this morning before his patrol, he always makes it super strong on days he has to run" alissa warned.
I grinned over at her, "super strong is just the way i like it. I love having the zoomies, if i have the zoomies that means i can read even more"
"More like read so fast you dont actually absorb anything, and then get aggravated later because you have no clue what you read" andy grumbled, leaning up against the counter and grabbing a muffin.
"Dont make me throw a spoon at you" i threatened, brandishing the spoon i had just gotten out to stir the sugar into my coffee. He stuck his tongue out at me and i gave him my best stink eye.
"You two are just the cutest" alissa said sadly, as she watched our interaction.
Andy sent me a look that said i needed to say something, that i needed to acknowledge the elephant in the room. I took my time spooning two spoonfuls of sugar into my coffee and stirring, then walking over to one of the massive fridges and opening it, searching for the thing of creamer that i liked. When i finally found it i walked back over to where my coffee was sitting on the counter and sighed. I turned around to face alissa, "im sorry, i am so sorry about what happened to martha. I never wanted anything bad to happen to her or anyone else here-"
"Stop. its not your fault and you have nothing to be sorry for. I am the one who should be apologizing to you. I shouldnt of reacted the way that i did the other day, it's not your fault that james miller reacted the way he did. I shouldn't of put the blame on you like that. Please forgive me?" alissa asked, sounding completely broken.
