Chapter Eight

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
I got bills to pay
I got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
I know I can't slow down
I can't hold back
Though you know
I wish I could
Oh, no there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good"

"The Milano"

"Well, I'd take the Ravagers over Ronan any day," Beth sighed.

She stood in the cockpit as Rocket flew the Milano onward.

They had to catch up to Yondu and the Ravagers before something happened to Peter and Gamora.

The four had argued back and forth on the best plan of rescue for their friends. What the four of them had settled on.

Beth shook her head, still frustrated.

What they had come up with wasn't a plan.

It was ridiculous but the three boys had agreed to it.

"This isn't gonna be a walk in the park either," Rocket replied.

Rocket added "Yondu is ruthless. He means business. Which is why I think the plan will work. We're hitting him head-on."

"By threatening to blow 'em up?" Beth shook her head.

"We're only gonna blow them up if they don't hand 'em over," Rocket snapped back.

Beth sighed.

Silence settled around the pair. It wasn't like the easy silence they had shared before. This silence was heavy and uncomfortable.

Beth turned to leave.

Rocket looked at her turning his seat towards her, "You know Groot really likes having you around for some reason,"

"Maybe because I keep my insults to a minimum?" Beth suggested turning back to the raccoon.

"I'm just saying if we survive this-" he began.

Rocket paused, "-You can keep traveling with us,"

Before Beth could reply Rocket added, "I mean between Quill's bounty and the orb fiasco, you still haven't paid me."

Beth groaned, "Let's start with not dying at the hands of mercenaries, hopefully, this ridiculous plan of yours works"

The raccoon smirked, "My plans always work, Sweets."

Why did he have to call her that?

Beth turned to leave again.

"-What you said to me back on Knowhere-" Rocket called after her.

A confused look appeared on the badger's face. "-When I told you we weren't getting paid?"

He shook his head, "No, the other thing."

Beth thought for a moment.
