Chapter Four

As the shutters opened, we slowly entered.

"Stay close." I told the kids.

"Daryl, you cover the back." I heard Shane tell him.

"Hello? Hello?" rick called out.

"Close those doors. Watch for walkers." Dale said.

"Hello?" Rick called out.

Instead of a voice, we heard a gun cocking. I immediately aimed my gun at the noise, pushing the kids behind me.

"Anybody infected?" We heard the person asked.

"One of our group was. He didn't make it." Rick told him.

"Why are you here? What do you want?" The guy asked.

"A chance." Rick told him.

"That's asking an awful lot these days." The guy said.

"I know." Rick said.

"You all submit to a blood test. That's the price of admission." The guy said.

"We can do that." Rick agreed.

"You got stuff to bring in, you do it now. Once this door closes, it stays closed." he told us.

"Stay here. I'll grab our stuff." I told the kids.

I ran outside, grabbing any arrow that belonged to Alec, before running to the truck. I grabbed each of our bag, returning back inside.

The kids hugged me, before taking their bag. Alec grabbed his arrows, before throwing his bow back, Izzy doing the same with her sword. I picked up Athena, while grabbing Izzy's hand, with Alec next to me as we walked.

I watched as the guy closed the shutters.

"Rick Grimes." Rick introduced.

"Dr. Edwin Jenner." he introduced.

Soon we were all packed into an elevator.

"Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" Daryl asked.

I wanted to hit him. I'm a doctor too.

"There were plenty left lying around. I familiarized myself. But you look harmless enough." He said looking at all of us then at Carl and my kids. "Except you four. I'll have to keep my eyes on y'all." he added.

We got off the elevator and walked down a hallway.

"Are we underground?" Carol asked.

"Are you claustrophobic?" Jenner asked.

"A little." Carol said.

"Try not to think about it." He said.

We finally reached our destination, which is a big room with computers. After he had VI turn the lights on, I knew right away. 

"Where is everybody? The other doctors, the staff?" Rick asked.

I could sense death all around us.

"What about the person you were speaking with? VI?" Lori asked.

How stupid are these people. It's obviously artificial intelligence. After he said that we had our blood drawn.

"Who next?" He asked after taking Shane's blood.

"Guess I am." Daryl said first. After he was done, I went next. Then Alec and the girls. 

"Mom." Isabelle called. 

"I'm right here, baby." I told her, taking her hand. 

"Can you do it in instead, mom?" Izzy asked me.
