Chapter Five

As we drove, we had less vehicles, getting rid of Daryl's truck, the van, and Shane's car. 

"Mom, what's Fort Benning?" Isabelle asked.

"A military base." I told her.

She nodded and I had the kids play game. As we made it to the highway, we came to a stop. I looked out the window and saw a pile up. I slowly drove through the cars and all I could see was the horror around me. Before I could focus about that though, we all came to a stop, due to the hose again.

"Come on." I told them as I got down. Together we searched around for supplies.

"Mom, I'm going to be over there." Alexander told me.

"Okay, not to far though. Keep your bow up and ready." I told him.

He nodded, walking away. The girls and I continued searching.

"Mommy, can I have it?" Athena asked me as she found a new backpack.

"Fill it up with what you like." I told her.

I saw Alec and Izzy a little distance away from us, but they both had their weapons out, so I trusted them. They each had things too. I looked around and found some knives and a gun with ammo. 

After looking for a while, I saw Shane shouting. He found water. I laughed. Then I smelt it. The dead. I turned around and I lifted my scope and saw a horde.

"Stay quiet." I told Athena as I picked her up. I ran to Izzy and Alec.

"Get under the cars. Don't make any noise and don't come out until I tell you too." I told them.

I watched as they crawled underneath a car together, before crawling under the one next to them with Athena, just as walkers came by.

I put my finger to my lips and made sure my kids stayed quiet. I kept Athena looking at me, eyes closed. As we waited for the horde to pass by, I smelt the blood. Someone's bleeding.

I looked at Alexander and Isabelle and saw Alec covering his sisters' eyes. I pointed to my mouth, then his ears. I saw him nod.

"Alec, can you hear me?" I whispered.

He gave me a thumbs up.

"Do not come out, until I go over there." I told him.

He nodded and I slowly crawled out. 

"Athena, baby, come on." I told her.

She crawled out and was in tears. I knew she was afraid. I went towards her bag and picked it up, before grabbing Alec's and Izzy's.

"Come on out, babies." I told them. 

Izzy came out first and hugged me. I put Athena down and hugged her back. Alec was next and hugged me. I pulled them all into one big hug, passing them their bags.

I could hear Carol crying and picked up Athena, as we walked towards everyone. 

"Oh, Lori, There's two walkers after my baby." She cried out as Lori quieted her down. I saw Rick race after her.

"Stella. T-dog need your help." Daryl told me.

I nodded and the kids and I went to him.

"T-dog." I said, putting Athena down and looking at the wound. "What happened?" I asked him.

"I scraped it against a door." He told me.

"Daryl, can you go with Isabelle and get my med bag? Please?" I asked. "Alec, you see that red car. In there is a bottle of alcohol, grab it." I told him.
