As I saw Izzy and Alec running around with the other kids, I focused back on Thena's hair. I already did Izzy's into a French braid and now I am doing her's into Dutch braids.

"Any luck?" I heard Lori ask Amy.

"How do we tell if they're poison?" Amy asked her.

"Uh, there's only one sure way I know of." She said. "Ask Shane when he gets back or Stella." Lori told her.

"Yeah, you got it." Amy said as Lori starts walking away.

"Dale, Stella-" I looked up wondering what she wanted "could y'all watch Carl?" she asked without waiting for an answer.

"Sweetheart, I want you to stay where Stella and Dale can see you" she told Carl.

"Yes, mom" he told her.

"You too. Don't wonder to far, stay within shouting distance. And if you see anything, holler. I'll come running." Dale told her.

"Yes, mom" she said whispering the last part to herself.

"Go on. Play with your siblings. Just stay in my line of sight." I told her.

"Okay, mommy." She said running off.

I saw as all the kids played, before Amy joined me with the berries.

After separating the poisonous berries from the good berries, I watched as the kids played underneath the shade.

"Mommy, I'm tired." Athena told me.

"Come on, let's go take a bath, then you can eat something, and sleep." I told her.

We went down to the creek, and I rinsed her off, before carrying her back up. We went into the tent and I gave her a juice with fruit. After she ate, she passed out. I closed the tent and saw the other kids resting. Carl was with Shane, Sophia with Carol, and Izzy and Alec were reading underneath our tree.

I sat with them, reading the book to them, until the radio went off. Static was all I heard until...

"Hello, base camp! Can anybody out there here me? Base camp, this is T-dog. Anybody hear me?" We heard.

"Hello? Hello?" "Receptions bad on this end" Dale said.

"Repeat. Repeat." Shane said grabbing the radio.

"Shane is that you" We heard.

"Is that them?" Lori asked.

"It sounds like them" I said getting tired of Lori asking stupid questions.

"We're in some deep shit." T-dog said over the radio. "We're trapped in the department store." T-dog continued.

"He say they're trapped?" Shane asked.

"There are geeks all over the place. Hundreds of them. We're surrounded." T-dog said.

"T-dog repeat the last part. Repeat" Dale asked but then there was only static.

"He said the department store." Lori said.

"I heard it too." Dale said.

"Same. He said the department store." I told them with a confident tone of voice. Knowing that is a fact because of my enhanced hearing being able to pick up on it.

"Shane?" Lori asked.

"No way, we do not go after them. We do not risk the rest of the group. Y'all know that." Shane said.

"So, we're just gonna leave her there?" Amy yelled.

"Look, Amy, I know that this isn't easy -" Shane was saying until.

"She volunteered to go, to help the rest of us." Amy interrupted him getting mad.

"I know, and she knew the risks, right? See, if she's trapped, she's gone. So, we just have to deal with that. There's nothing we can do. - " Shane was saying "She's, my sister. You son of a bitch!" Amy yelled running away.

Shane then looked at Lori and turns around, while Lori follows Amy.

"Shane, you're a dick, you know that." I told him.

"Shut up, Stella. They volunteered. It's their own fault." he said as he started walking towards Carl taking him away.

I walk back to the tree and finish reading with the kids.

"Mom, are the other's going to be okay?" Izzy asked me.

"I don't know, baby. We can only hope for the best." I told her. "Now, let's get y'all rinse off, before eating something." I told them.

We walked down to the creek, and I covered them with a towel. After they changed, we walked back, and I gave them water and some meat from yesterday. They went to bed, and I soon followed.
