The Slytherin common room was located away from the Gryffindor tower much to Phoenix's dismay. As she walked through the dimly lit corridors, she couldn't help but notice the eerie silence that was slowly engulfing them. The farther they walked, the darker it was, and she wondered if they were going to their common room or invading a bats cave.
The first years came to a sudden halt, as Gemma Farley spoke, "Look around and memorise this spot. The wall you see ahead of you is the entrance to the common room and is only revealed when you say the password out loud. Now, do keep in mind that the password changes every fortnight, and the new password will be put up on the notice board. With me so far?" she questioned, earning a quick nod from them.
"Alright," she faced the stone wall and said, "Salazar."
The stone door slid open, and she walked through it, into the common room and the rest of them soon followed. It took Phoenix a moment to adjust to the lighting inside the room. A greenish-blue hue surrounded the entire room and the only source of light was the green lamps that were hanging from the stone ceiling, and the arched glass windows.
"The staircase leads up to the dormitories: the boys are to my right, and the girls to my left. Since we are underneath the black lake, you will occasionally see the Merpeople and the Giant Squid pass by. Do not be alarmed, and do not go around tapping the windows. It'll only aggravate them more. And if you need any help or have any questions do feel free to find me, I'm happy to help," she smiled.
"Your belongings have already been taken care of. You'll find them in your dorms," she added, before directing a group of girls to the dormitories.
"I'm not sure whether I'm impressed or shocked," Phoenix said, as she looked around the room.
Scarlett chuckled, "You're taking this better than I thought you would."
"Hey! We're underwater, and I haven't drowned yet. So, can't complain," Phoenix laughed, trying her best to forget the fact that she was actually under the very lake that had terrified her earlier.
"Attagirl! See, this isn't that bad," Blaise exclaimed, as they made their way towards the staircase.
"Right," Draco agreed.
"Well, see you tomorrow. Night boys!" Scarlett waved, before making her way up the staircase. Blaise soon followed suit leaving Phoenix and Draco alone.
Draco cleared his throat hesitantly, "I'll see you tomorrow," he said softly, refusing to meet her eyes. Still hurt by his words, Phoenix turned around and marched up the stairs. Draco looked up, staring at her retreating figure in surprise. It wasn't like her to say goodbye to him without a hug, let alone a simple goodnight. With a heavy heart, he made his way to the dormitory, where Blaise was patiently waiting for him.
Scarlett and Phoenix were staring at the door that had their initials S.S. and P.W. engraved upon it. "We're roommates! It's just us!" Scarlett yelled, jumping with joy. Phoenix grinned and gripped the coiled door handle before opening it.
There were two four-posterbeds that had emerald-coloured velvet curtains hung around them, with theirtrunks neatly placed at the foot of the bed.
Scarlett fell onto the bed with a thud and rolled over her stomach, grabbing a pillow. Phoenix shut the door behind her and sat on the other bed, stifling a yawn. Scarlett laughed throwing a pillow on her face, "I thought we were going to check out the forbidden forest!"
"The forest can wait," Phoenix chuckled, as she cuddled the pillow against her.
Scarlett made a face at her, "You're a lazy arse."
