"Can you please tell me why we are here by the lake instead of my room? It's freezing in here!"

"Cause Alf will be coming with Nix's gifts anytime now, and I didn't want her to see him. Thanks to Fred and George she's barely leaving our dorm after classes, and all this will be for nothing if she finds out we're planning a party," Scarlett said, kicking a pebble into the lake.

"Okay, fair enough. But, why exactly are Fred and George stalking her? They haven't left her side since yesterday; Snape docked ten points from Gryffindor because they wouldn't let her enter the class."

Scarlett laughed as Snape's frustrated face flashed into her mind, "That was both very bold and stupid."

"We lost ten points because of that," Jack complained as he picked up a rock from the shore. "Did they truly think Snape would let her skip his class? Or any class for that matter," he added, throwing the rock on the lake, and watched it as it bounced off the surface three times before it finally sunk into the water.

"I don't know," Scarlett replied, "I haven't spoken to her properly since last week, have you?" she said, kicking yet another pebble into the lake.

Jack hung his head as another rock bounced off the lake, "Not since the full moon."

"You can't avoid her forever Jack," said Scarlett, "You've been distancing yourself since last month, she keeps asking me if you're okay. On top of that, Nix thinks you're mad at her for some reason."

Jack took in a deep breath, as he silently cursed under his breath, "What happened?" Scarlett asked curiously, as she watched him clench his fists.

"Last month, before the full moon, I was at Hagrid when –"

"Is this about the injured unicorns? Because Mum and Marcus are worried about them too, they think some creature is scaring all the other beings in the forest. Just a few days back, they found a Mountain Troll, it was lost, wandering near the Castle, but Dad says it must have just strayed away from its home."

Jack scrunched up his brows in confusion, "Hang on, a Troll? Last month, Will mentioned about a Troll. Said Fred and George spotted one near Hogsmeade, that's why he wanted us to stay away from that passageway."

"Passageway?" Scarlett snapped, and looked up at him curiously, "I thought you said you didn't talk to Phoenix."

The frown on Jack's face deepened, "I didn't. I was talking about the passageway we met in."

"What passageway?" Scarlett demanded as she threw her hands up in frustration.

"The one Will took us to! Honestly, how could you forget that? It's not like there are tons of secret passageways lying about in Hogwarts."

"What if there are?" Scarlett mumbled to herself, as she turned away from him. Jack stared at her in utter confusion, "Scar, what does Phoenix have to do with all this? I thought we were talking about –"

"So, Phoenix really hasn't mentioned anything about a hallway to you?"

"A what? No, she hasn't. Scarlett, are you even listening to me? I was just saying to you, how I hadn't spoken to her since last month. Well, that's not true, we did talk a couple of times in classes, and sometimes –"

"That's good, that's great," Scarlett interrupted, oblivious to his growing frustration, and kept pacing around the shore, lost in her trail of thoughts.

"You're happy about that?" he demanded bitterly, "I've been worried sick, trying to figure out to on how to make things right, and you're saying it's good –"

"I am saying it's good that she believed me. That, it was all some prank, nothing else."

"You told her that I was pranking her?" he questioned, his voice laced with anger and sheer irritation.
