The morning before the classes was one of the most chaotic days Phoenix had ever had. Firstly, she couldn't find her Potions and Charms textbooks, as they had gotten mixed up with the other books she had been reading the previous night. Second, Phoenix realised that her Potions essay was missing, and she ended up turning her entire room upside down while searching for it, only to discover that it was under one of the sofas in the common room.
Third, she had missed breakfast, which was the least of her concerns, but that little mishap alerted Fred and George, who did not hesitate once, before showing up at the Dungeons and giving her an earful. By this time, all the restraint and patience that she had left died down, as she angrily yelled at the twins, telling them off, before storming back into the common room.
To top it all off, just when she was about to leave for the Potions class, Blaise pointed out that she was missing her tie, which made her want to rip out her hair in sheer frustration.
"I don't know where the damn thing is," Phoenix muttered angrily, as Daphne and Scarlett shot Blaise a look.
"Hey don't glare me, If it weren't for me, Snape would've pointed it out. Do you think that would've gone –"
"Blaise," Draco interrupted, "For the love of Merlin, stop talking. Why don't you all go ahead, and just tell Snape we're running a little late?"
Blaise nodded, "Right, 'cause he is such a reasonable person. I'm pretty sure he'll not chuck all of us in detention."
"Reasonable or not, if he sees that half of his students are missing from class, he will certainly give us detention," snapped Draco.
Blaise sighed, "Fine, we'll go, keep him busy. You two, hurry up."
"So much for a tie," Scarlett grumbled as she stormed out of the room, "It's just a tie, who cares!"
"Say that to Snape's face," Blaise exclaimed, "He ducked two points from Crabbe and Goyle yesterday, he said that they showed up like mannerless, brainless barbarians! And they weren't even in his class!"
Phoenix looked at Draco dejected, "You should go to, I –"
"Stay here, I'll be right back," said Draco as he rushed up the stairs to his dorm. He flung his trunk open, grabbed his spare tie and sprinted back to the common room. Draco tapped Phoenix's shoulder motioning her to turn around. She slowly turned around and looked at him questioningly.
"It's not the end of the world," said Draco, placing the tie around her neck. "Worst case scenario, he ducks a point or two, which knowing you, you'll get back by the end of the class."
Phoenix blinked back tears in frustration, as she watched Draco tighten the knot, "Thank you," she muttered, looking down at her tie. "Is it comfortable or is it too tight?" he asked, adjusting the tie, making sure it was neatly tucked in place.
"It's perfect, thank you."
Draco smiled looking at her, "Chin up, White," he said nudging her shoulder.
Phoenix nodded taking in a deep breath, "Let's go," she said, slinging her bag onto her shoulder, and the two of them hurried off to the Potions class.
Snape was in the middle of explaining the effects of brewing a Potion when Draco and Phoenix stepped into the class. The moment they walked in everyone snapped their heads towards them, except Snape who was busy writing instructions on the board.
"Do you both intend to stand there forever, Mr Malfoy, Miss White?" Snape asked looking from the corner of his eyes.
"No, Professor," Draco replied, as Phoenix stayed still next to him.
