Nick and Dominick wandered into the squadroom later than usual the next morning. They had spent most of the evening at their usual bar, and Dominick kept shooting back drinks as he tried to forget Amanda and his feelings for her. Nick was just along for the ride, since he had mostly accepted the fact Amanda would never want to be with him.
"Detectives, you both are almost an hour late. Do you want to explain?" Olivia asked, as she stood in the center of the squadroom.
"I'm sorry, Sergeant. We got drunk and didn't get home until late," Nick breathed, as he rubbed his forehead.
"If we breathalyzed you, would you still register as legally drunk?" Olivia questioned. Nick shrugged before pointing at Dominick.
"I might, but he definitely will," Nick admitted.
Olivia shook her head and looked over at Dominick. He was slumped over in his desk chair, his head resting heavily on the edge of his desk. Nick looked like shit, but Dominick looked much worse. Olivia knew she should feel bad, but Amanda made herself clear every time she turned him down. Now he is self-destructing and coming to work drunk.
"Amaro and Carisi!" Olivia exclaimed. Nick cringed, and Dominick sat up slowly and looked at Olivia.
"That isn't cool, Olivia," Dominick breathed.
"What isn't cool is the fact you show up to work either drunk or super hungover. Now, you both are getting written up for this. I want you out of my squadroom," Olivia spoke, deciding that cracking down on this issue now may help prevent it in the future.
Everyone went silent as they stared at Olivia. She rarely punished her detectives out in the open, yet here she stood doing that exact thing.
"You can't do that," Dominick huffed, as he stood and swayed a bit. Nick walked to him and held his arm so he wouldn't fall onto the floor.
Olivia crossed her arms over her chest and stepped towards him.
"I am your commanding officer, and this is a serious issue. I understand that you both went through a pretty serious let down, but that doesn't give you the right to drink all night and show up to work smelling like whiskey. You both can either leave right now with only a write-up on your jacket, or I can suspend you. It's your choice," Olivia replied, standing her ground.
Dominick took a shaky step towards Olivia, but was dragged back quickly by Nick and Fin.
"Watch yourself, Carisi. I will kick your ass if you try to lay a finger on her. Trust me," Fin warned.
Dominick pulled his arms from their grasp before stomping out of the squadroom. Nick frowned and looked at Olivia before gathering his items and walking out quietly.
Olivia turned quickly and walked into her office as her heart pounded in her chest.
"Are you okay?" Amanda asked. She had been sitting in Olivia's office the entire time, which helped keep the situation a little less messy.
"Yes, I'm fine. Just a little shook up..."
///
Dominick did not come back for the rest of the week. He didn't call off, he just stopped showing up. Olivia contacted Dodds about the situation, and was told to give him until Monday, and then they can discuss termination.
When Monday rolled around, Dominick didn't show up again. But his mother did.
"Sergeant Benson?" The gravelly voice asked. Olivia looked up from her computer and eyed the blonde.
"Uh, that's me. May I ask who you are?"
"I'm Serafina Carisi. Sonny's mother."
Olivia's eyes went wide as she stood slowly. She was confused why Dominick's mother would come to the precinct and ask to talk to her. This wasn't a school, and Olivia wasn't the principal. The punishment that Olivia gave to Dominick was even lighter than he deserved, especially after the stunt he had pulled.
"Mrs. Carisi, I don't know how I can help you right now. If this is about your son, he hasn't been to work in almost a week and I'm working on the proper paperwork to suspend him officially," Olivia breathed.
"Please don't do that, Sergeant Benson. Sonny is just upset about the situation."
"This doesn't concern you, Mrs. Carisi. Dominick is a grown man that has had plenty of opportunities to come in and apologize to me for his behavior. To apologize to Amanda for the way he has been treating her. Yet you are here and he isn't."
Serafina sat on a chair in front of Olivia's desk without being prompted. Olivia sighed softly and sat back down as Serafina spoke.
"He's in love with Amanda... Knowing that he can't be with her is destroying him. Flaunting around your relationship-"
"Okay. Don't. Amanda and I aren't flaunting around our relationship. We are in love and just happen to work together. Dominick would not stop flirting with her and offering himself up to raise her baby with her. She kept turning him down, but he didn't seem to accept that. Now, what you are doing right now is unacceptable and inappropriate. Dominick is a grown man that needs to pull his big boy pants up and accept that Amanda doesn't want to be with him anymore. If he cannot accept that, then he will have to find a new place of employment. Please, see yourself out," Olivia spoke coldly. She stood and motioned to her open office door as Serafina stared at her in shock.
"Sergeant-"
"We are done here, Mrs. Carisi. Please tell Dominick what I said. He has until tomorrow morning to show up to work, or else he will no longer be employed with the NYPD."
