Chapter 3

The ride to Garibaldi was exhausting. It was awfully long and very lonely. It was also difficult to tell who was more exhausted. Herself, or the driver. Destiny Hills looked outside the bus window, her mind drifting into the clouds. She saw the huge G on the top of the hill, overlooking the small town. Garibaldi. Yes. It was the most secluded place she could think of. It was far from Beaverton, true, but it was also safer. She preferred to be close to the cold Pacific Northwest beaches and the quiet and serene place of the small town.

Destiny was rather tall for a girl her age. At only sixteen years of age, she was very quiet and very bitter with life. She's dealt with lies, trauma, and death itself, and one day, she simply decided to escape and run away. A lot of people in her life laughed at her for making decisions others say was utterly selfish, but for Destiny, running away was not selfish. She saw this as a fresh new start. A brand new chapter in her book called life if you will.

"This is my stop. Thank you." said Destiny to the driver.

"Garibaldi huh? I gotta say, you picked a good place to live in." said the young female driver. She was a stout lady with lovely brown skin, pearly teeth and spongy looking hair and she had a kind face.

"Thank you so much for driving me here Mrs. Kasongo. Please, have this for your gas." said Destiny as she pulled out some cash.

"Don't worry Destiny. I got you. I needed this drive too. I was getting bored watering my flowers. Well, don't get lost in the forest. I hear strange things happen in those woods. People say Bigfoot could be hiding around here." said the lady with a wink.

"Bigfoot? That would be something." replied Destiny with a smile.

"Stay safe out there little lady." said Ms. Kasongo as she rolled up her window. Destiny waved goodbye as the lady sped away. After the car was gone from view, Destiny felt her heart ache just a little. Ms. Kasongo lived in her neighborhood. She was face that Destiny always loved to talk too.

Now it was time to settle down. Destiny already called for a motel in town that she could stay in for the time being, all she wanted to do was sleep. After that, she would.... And that was when she stopped. She did get a room in a motel for herself. But she was not prepared. She had money. Lots of money. But was it enough for an apartment? And if so, where in Garibaldi would she find one? Destiny froze in place, realizing she may have made a big mistake coming here.

No. It was not a mistake. She wanted this. She needed this. And most importantly, she saved herself. Yes. Herself! She took the decision to run away to save herself. No one else made that choice but her. Only her.

As Destiny was lost in her thoughts, thinking what else to do, she noticed a boy standing in the middle of a road leading up to a neighborhood. He wasn't wearing any shoes and he was wearing only his PJs with clouds on them. Destiny didn't think much about it at first, until she saw the boy float.

Her eyes widened and looked again. The boy was floating. Up into the air. His bare feet were not touching the ground. He was just a few centimeters from the ground, but Destiny watched as the boy moved, without walking.

"Little boy? Are your parent's around?" she called out worriedly.

The boy did not answer. He kept on flying, in a bad zombie-like way. It gave Destiny the chills. But still... she couldn't just leave the boy alone. She knew in her gut that the boy was in some trouble. Supernatural or not, the boy needed help.

Destiny chased after the boy and pulled him down to the ground.

"Stay here! I'll call the police." she said aloud. Then, with an inhuman strength, the boy pulled away from Destiny's strong grasp and floated up into the air. And then he screamed. Only there was no scream. It was more of a quiet kind of scream, as if it were a whisper. Destiny was beginning to get really scared. But she knew something evil was taking the boy away.

"Little boy! Stop!" she cried out. She ran after the boy, who was flying into the woods. Destiny kept on going until the boy stopped. In midair, his body turned to face Destiny. His face was pale, the pupils of his eyes were small, and when the boy opened his mouth, a green liquid was coming out of his lips, like saliva.

"Little boy, is everything alright? Can I take you home?" offered Destiny softly, offering her hand to the boy.

The boy didn't say a word. He simply raised his hand towards Destiny and pointed a finger at her. Then he spoke. Not with a boy's voice. An adult's voice. A strong feminine voice with a commanding authority.

"This child belongs to the Earth. I shall return its body and bones to where it originated from."

Destiny didn't scream. Nor did she run away. Instead, she frowned. Then she did the unthinkable. She ran up to the boy, pulled him down, hugged him with her arms and carried him off.

"Whatever is taking you, don't let it take you!" she cried angrily. Destiny was never much of a believer of supernatural phenomena. But seeing this made her blood boil. Whatever it was that possessed the boy, it was taking his body. His being. It was a form of toxicity that made Destiny very angry.

As she ran back into the boy's neighborhood, the boy's consciousness started to come back and he then started to cry.

"It's okay! You're safe now! I'm going to take you home. Where do you live?" asked Destiny gently.

The boy didn't answer. He kept on crying. Destiny pleaded with the boy to calm down, until she looked up and saw what appeared to be a cloaked figure standing in the forest. Within seconds, it vanished into thin air. Destiny looked at the boy, then at the forest clearing again.

"What on Earth was that?" she asked aloud.
