Chapter 1
Mateo Garcia was not excited for summer. He looked at the clock in his school with dread. When the bell rang, he realized he was already starting to sweat. His classmate, Ethan, sat in front of him in class and he turned around to tease him.
"Dude, you are dripping like an old mop! What the heck's wrong you man?" Ethan said with as smirk.
On most days, Matt didn't mind his constant potty jokes or his teasing, but that day was not the best day for that. Matt wanted to flat out ignore Ethan and just walk out of the classroom. But instead, he decided to answer him.
"I don't want to go home because it's going to be a boring summer." Matt lied. Of course. He lied again. He had to. He had no choice and it was none of Ethan's business to know everything that happened back home, in that apartment complex.
Ethan on the other hand knew Matt well. He knew when he was lying.
"Is there something going on?" he asked almost excitedly. He then hopped up and down like an energetic squirrel and squeaked at Matt.
"Is it Marcos? Did he get himself laid or what?" said Ethan.
Matt wanted to act cool around his friend and nodded. Ethan then howled with delight and pushed Matt's arm with a closed fist.
"Tell me everything! What did you see? What did you hear? Did you catch a glimpse of something?" said Ethan.
Matt thought of a few things and he whispered in Ethan's ears. "I heard him call her baby. Then he started to sing that crappy song from that boy band."
"Oh! What boy band?" asked Ethan.
"You know. The Spicy Chiles." said Matt.
"But did you hear anything?!" pressed Ethan on.
As the boys were both exchanging naughty thoughts down the hall, Matt caught a glimpse of Marcos. He was standing by his car, a beat up old blue beetle.
"Catch ya later." said Matt.
"Okay. See ya. But call me tonight? And tell me more?" said Ethan.
"What is your obsession with Marcos's sex life?" asked Matt, a little too loudly.
"My what now?" asked Marcos, his eyes widening.
"Nothing! Bye!" cried Ethan and then he scurried off to the busses.
"What have you been telling him?" asked Marcos. He then started to pull Matt's ears.
"I just wanted him to know how cool you are! Ow, ow.." said Matt.
"Yeah. I know I'm awesome. But what were you saying to him? I hope you were saying good things about me and not bad things that kids your age shouldn't even know about. You are after all ten." said Marcos.
