I entered the conference room and began looking for Rex. I saw everyone but him. The meeting started, and we were served snacks and coffee. After a while, I noticed Rex walking in the conference room in a white shirt and blue jeans. I couldn't help but smile when I saw him, but he ignored me. I desperately waited for the meeting to finish. After three long hours of tedious discussion, the meeting finally came to an end. I quickly jumped out of my chair and walked over to where Rex was talking to a girl.
"Rex?" I called him from behind. He turned around and gave me a cold look.
"Hey, Saanj," he replied.
"Can I talk to you for a minute?"
Rex turned and told the girl, "I'll see you in a while, okay?" She nodded and left.
"What's up?" He asked.
"Why are you avoiding me?" I tried to read him by looking him in the eyes.
Rex rolled his eyes and said, "I don't have time for all this, Saanj. I have a lot of editing to do."
I frowned. "Rex, c'mon. Don't be like that. I would hate to lose you. I know what you're thinking, but I think you really should hear Sabil's side of the story once."
"Saanj, please. Let it go, okay? I can't do this right now." Rex said in exasperation.
I looked down and said it solemnly. "I am leaving tomorrow."
"I'm aware." I heard him say.
"Can't we be friends?" I asked, looking at him.
Rex sighed, looking around. He then looked at me with his intense grey eyes and said, "You have no idea what you are doing to me, Saanj. You are the most amazing woman I've ever met, but you are with the most imperfect man in this world. Saanj, I hate him more than I like you. So as long as you're with him, no, we cannot be friends."
I fought back a tear that threatened to roll down my cheek. "You have no idea what Sabil is. You have no idea what he is going through because you have turned a blind eye to the truth. You are frustrated because you lost your brother, and you just need someone to take your frustration out on. I think deep inside you too know it wasn't Sabil's fault. You just need someone to blame. I like you a lot, Rex. But I cannot let you go on blaming Sabil for what he's not done. Goodbye, Rex. Have a good life." I said that and left.
As expected, Rex didn't call or leave any text messages. I spoke to the director to inform him that I would be vacating my room and would be staying with a friend for the night. He is a grumpy man who has had some issues with me since the time he had an argument with Rex over me. He just said, "Do what you want," and left.
I went up to my room to start packing. After a while, I got a call from Sabil.
"Hey," I said.
"Three and a half hours is far too long to not hear your voice." He said.
I laughed softly. "Well, I am all yours from this hour until tomorrow morning."
"I'm relieved. Where are you now?"
"In my room, packing."
"Do you need some help?" He asked.
"Well, packing I can do. But I would love your presence here." I replied.
Sabil chuckled. "I'll be there in five minutes."
While packing my clothes in a bag, my eyes fell on the balcony. Sabil and I sat here yesterday, talking and snuggling into each other. I smiled. Once again, it's the memories that I am taking with me. Separation from Sabil hurt like hell the last time I was here. It's hurting this time too. But there's a little voice deep within my heart telling me that this isn't it. We'll see each other again. We are going to stay in touch. Unlike last time, we aren't going to sever all the ties. He'll come back to me once he's dealt with his adversary.
