"I genuinely don't know how we're gonna do this dance without crying." Mackenzie said as she and Katiana were in the studio two days after their fourth episode.
They were rehearsing two dances they had for the following week. Katiana and Mackenzie had a contemporary duet to the song Family Line by Conan Gray. It would be based on the history with Jon and their own emotions dealing with his death. It was very raw and vulnerable, a side they only kept close to home.
Even with that duet, they also had a trio. They had a fun ballroom trio with Graham. Mackenzie rarely did ballroom dance, so her sister and her sister's boyfriend were definitely having to help her. Their duet was to the song Good Place by LeoSoul. It was more of a jive style but also the complete opposite of their emotional duet. They had a lot to prove to stay in the competition.
"Mack, I really don't know either. Somewhere we have strength to do it. I just don't know if I can look at mom, dad, and Chloe while we do it." Katiana replied as they took a break to get some water.
"Yeah, I mean I know we all have our own emotions about Jon dying. But I'm glad the two of us are able to channel them in this dance which is a healthy outlet." The fifteen year old said to her big sister.
"It definitely is. And it's Jon's loss, Macky. He lost out on three great girls and now a granddaughter. Must've sucked to be him." The blonde replied before grabbing a granola bar.
Chloe, Katiana, and Mackenzie all dealt with Jon's death very differently. Chloe was angry and partially blamed herself as Jon got worse once Mercedes was pregnant with her. However, they all knew it was not Chloe's fault. She's the child and did no wrong before and after she was born.
Katiana did not give a shit. She was definitely the more blunt one, not caring at all. To her, it was Jon's loss that he missed out on her and her sisters, as well as now a granddaughter. She never cared nor liked Jon from when their mother explained it from a young age. Joe would always be her dad and Jon was just a sperm donor to her.
Mackenzie had a lot of mixed emotions. She was confused on why Jon never got help. She was glad that Joe adopted her and her sisters, having him as an amazing dad. However, she also had questions that would never be answered. She would deal with that as she got older, but for now poured her emotions into dance.
"Yes, but let's get back to work! We've got two dances this week together sissy!" Mackenzie beamed, excited to dance with her big sister and Graham.

The following Monday rolled around as Katiana, Graham, and Mackenzie were already getting ready for the day. Their trio would open the show and the two sisters' duet would be near the end of the show. It would be a long day, but they were hopeful it would be worth it to make it to the next week. That would be the quarterfinals of the show.
"Look at you three!" Pam grinned at her son, Katiana, and Mackenzie as they all walked in ready to perform.
Katiana and Mackenzie had on matching yellow ballroom dresses that were crystallized and had fringe on them. They had their hair down that fell in curls, as well as a natural makeup look paired with a red lip. Graham wore a matching yellow dress shirt, black pants, and his ballroom shoes. They were ready to dance.
"Yes, you guys look incredible!" Mercedes grinned as the three hugged their family.
"Mack, I can't wait to see you do a ballroom dance!" Chloe grinned, knowing this was not Mackenzie's forte. However, she knew her sister could pull it off.
"Thanks, Chlo! I have two incredible people to help me along the way." Mackenzie grinned at Katiana and Graham.
The three spent some time with their families before they went off to their seats. They would be opening the show, so quickly walked to where they needed to go. The three hyped each other up before being called to the stage.
"Dancing jive to Good Place, it's Katiana and Mackenzie Anoa'i, and Graham Devitt!" They announced as everyone cheered loud.
The three had a blast dancing together. Mackenzie felt her confidence boost a bit as she stepped out of her comfort zone. She was glad Kati and Graham helped her so much as she is not a trained ballroom dancer, unlike the two of them. After the dance was done, they headed backstage.
Katiana and Mackenzie had to change and get ready for their duet. The hair and makeup artists came to touch up their makeup, putting their hair in low buns with some curls to frame their face. They also changed into a beautiful grey contemporary dress. They were feeling a bit emotional, sharing a sweet embrace.
"I love you, Mack! We got this. We are stronger than we think." Katiana said during their hug, knowing her little sister was having a lot of emotions ahead of their raw dance.
"I love you too, Kati! Let's do this!" Mackenzie grinned as they walked on stage. They saw their family, winking at them before channeling their emotions into the dance.
"Dancing contemporary, it's Katiana and Mackenzie Anoa'i." The pre recorded audio said as the two girls took center stage.
Mercedes could not help but find herself emotional watching two of her daughters dance together. Katiana and Mackenzie's dance was everything it should be. It was raw, vulnerable, emotional, storytelling, yet beautiful at the same time. They looked around and could hardly see a dry eye in the audience.
As they were done, Katiana could tell Mackenzie was emotional. She walked over and hugged her little sister tight as everyone applauded the two. Katiana helped to calm her down before hugging Mercedes, Joe, Chloe, and their three younger siblings.
"I am so proud of us! We're going to the quarterfinals!" Katiana beamed as she, Mackenzie, and Graham headed backstage a bit later. The three were saved for the following week's episode. They were glad and still reaching to the top.
"Me too! We're almost there and I know we can do it!" Mackenzie cheered as the three shared a hug, detoxing from the night but already looking ahead to the next week. They were determined to win, one way or another.
