Driving Home

Aon and Pohn worriedly looked at their daughter who was silent since she came here.

They also noticed that she was not wearing her wedding ring.

"Mon, are you okay? Is everything okay at the palace?"

"Yes mae, why are you asking?"

"Umm....it's....where is your wedding ring?" Pohn questioned her.

Mon looked at her empty ring finger. She took her wedding ring from her bag and puts it on her finger.

"Here. No one knows about my wedding in university. I want to keep it that way until my graduation."

Pohn and Aon both nods their heads in understanding.

"I am going to cook your favorite dish." Pohn said, changing the topic.

"I am not staying for dinner. Actually I should go now, don't want to be late to return to the palace.

"Mon, you came here only an hour ago. Please have dinner with us." Pohn request to her daughter.

"I can't mae, I....."

"Mon, are you upset with us?"

"No, why would you thought that I am upset with you papa?"

"We are responsible for everything that happens to you. You have to sacrifice your happiness and we couldn't do anything."

"Mae, what are you talking about? I don't have anything against you in my heart. You have nothing to do with what's happening in my life and so do I. It's all about one's destiny. So never blame yourself again. I don't like it." Mon said holding her parents hands. "I love you. Just remember this."

Her parents had tears in theirs eyes but smile on their faces. They nodded and hugged her.

"And I am going to call grandma to ask if I can stay until dinner."

"Mon stayed at her parents house for dinner, you should fetch her later from there, ok Sam."

They were having dinner when grandma asked Sam to bring Mon.

"Grandma, Mon said she will get a cab....."

"Sam! It's already late. You shouldn't let your wife take public transport at this time. Do what I am saying."

Sam just nodded and continue to eat her food.

Sam was sitting in her car outside Mon's house for half an hour. She have no idea if Mon is done with dinner or not. She was having conflict in her mind if she should call Mon or not. What if she is spending quality time with her parents and she disturb them. That was the reason she was waiting outside so she can pick Mon when she would be ready to leave.

And then an another thought came to her mind. What if Mon already left and about to reach the palace? With that she dialed her wife's number.

Mon was talking to her parents after dinner. They were discussing about random and light topics when her phone rang. She saw khun Sam's name, her eyes widened when she noticed the time. She was pretty much late.

"Mae, papa, I am leaving."

"How are you going to the palace? Is someone picking you?" Aon asked worriedly.

"I am taking cab."

"No, it's quite late. Your papa will drive you to the palace."

"Mae that......" before she can finish her sentence, her phone started ringing again and it was khun Sam again.

Mon got worried. What if khun Sam is angry with her for not reaching home on time. Should she ask khun Sam to pick from her parents house. She offered that in the morning, right.

After few seconds the ringing stopped and a text message appears on her screen.

'I am outside your parent's house. Are you still here?'

Her eyes got wide and dread fill in them. Khun Sam was here to take her home. Is she in trouble?

"Mae, papa, khun Sam is outside. I shouldn't make her wait." Mon said walking towards entrance.

"Khun Sam is here? We should invite........"

"Not today mae, I am leaving."

Mon left from there in hurry. Her parents were worried about their daughter. But they understood that Mon didn't want to make Sam wait.

Mon's hands were sweating. She was in tension. She was late and on the top she didn't call to grandma or khun Sam to inform about it. She didn't picked khun Sam's calls, who was waiting outside her home. She was dreading going in front of Sam.

She was near the car when driver door opened and khun Sam came out.

She was ready to ask for forgiveness when khun Sam give her a smile. It was a guilty smile and Mon couldn't understand the reason behind it.

"I am sorry Mon, I know you said that you will take cab but grandma insist that I should fetch you. I hope I didn't disturb your family time."

Listening to khun Sam, Mon was looking at her with shock. Is she genuinely saying sorry or she don't want to say anything to her just yet because it's her parent's house.

"Mon? You okay?"

"Huh....yeah...yes I am okay. I am sorry to make you wait khun Sam. I lost the track of time."

"No worries Mon, I shouldn't mind waiting if I had to wait more." Sam said opening passenger seat door for her wife.

Mon sat in the car still a little surprised.

"Do you want to eat ice cream?" They were on their way when Sam suddenly asked. "There is a ice cream parlor ahead, they have the best ice cream."

"Do you eat ice cream?"

"Why you sound so surprised? Everyone eat ice-cream."

Mon closed her eyes in embarrassment. What kind of question it was. Who doesn't eat ice-cream. Mon scolded herself.

"Do they sell butterscotch flavor?"

"of course, they have every flavor in ice cream. Me and Nop always....."

Sam stopped herself when she noticed that Nop's name slipped out of her mouth. She was careful to not mention her brother's name in front of Mon until now.

"Butterscotch is my favorite flavor. Which one is your?"
Mon asked understanding Sam's problem.

"Uhm......i don't have any favorite. I choose the flavor according to my mood." Sam said and stopped the car. They were in front of the ice cream parlor. "Butterscotch for you right?" Mon nodded at her and Sam left to buy ice cream.

Mon was looking at her and had a little smile on her face. Maybe khun Sam is not like the way she was thinking.
