Silence.
Not a single sound could be heard around me...
The air was cold and dry, it was quiet all around me except for the crunch of ice at the bottom of my shoes. It was eerily scary, making my blood pump faster through my veins.
I walked through the thin snow, careful with my steps so I didn't slip on the wet rocks.
Jotunheim was the realm of the Jotun, otherwise known as the Frost giants. They lurk through the cold shadows, waiting to pounce on their prey.
The sun was setting and it was getting colder by the minute. My nose felt stuffy and my fingers were numb. My eyes hurting from the cold. I continued walking through the foggy land, towers of rocks and mountain.
As I was walking, I heard a crunch behind me, I looked over my shoulder to find nothing... I picked up the pace, sensing I was no longer alone.
Just as I began to run, I heard the noise get louder behind me, chasing me... but every time I looked behind me, there was nothing.
I ran into a small cave like structure, hiding behind a pile of rocks, I looked towards the entrance, watching how a shadow-like figure walked pass the entrance. My heart pounded in my chest, my blood gushing in my ears, my breath coming out heavily and labored.
After a few minutes my breathing returned back to normal, my blood calming in my ears. Before I could go to stand, I felt a tug at my hair, as if someone put their hand through it, freezing up I slowly looked over my shoulder a sinister grin coming into view. Their teeth were sharp and dripping with some kind of liquid. Their eyes were dark red, unlike any kind of Jotun.
My body bounced back to life and I ran as fast as I could, not looking back once. My feet were starting to hurt from all the running, my shoes beginning to get worn out from all the running. The sun was fully down now and the wind has picked up, causing the once quiet frozen gorge to be bustling with the sound of the howling winds.
This time whatever was chasing after me didn't choose to hide its appearance. A tall frost giant was running towards me, they were fast, but I was faster. Skating down the frozen stream I managed to get a decent distance away from them. I ran and ran as far as I could, running down a small crack in the mountains, hopping they wouldn't be able to fit through the small crack.
I was wrong.
Red eyes peaked around the corner, making me freeze in my spot, they straightened up and walked into the small space, leaving me with no room to run.
"I found you." they said lowly, my blood running cold and my body shaking with both fear and anticipation
"Barely..." I whispered, the red eyes ahead of me turned dark, making my breath hitch in my throat. He stepped forward but stopped moving, his eyes landing on his shoulders as they got stuck between the walls of the small space, I took that opportunity to run between his legs and back out the space, hearing him shout behind me but not being able to move
I ran as far as I could, trying my best not to slip on the ice beneath me. I realized it too late when my foot was trapped between two rocks, making me fall forward, the ice beneath me began to crack, making me panic and try to release my foot. I was too late when the ice beneath me cracked, sending me into the ice-cold water beneath me, thankfully it wasn't deep enough to drown me but it was cold enough to kill me.
I thrashed against the rocks holding my foot, desperately trying to set myself free. My entire body stopped moving when a freezing cold hand gripped my ankle, hauling it from the rocks and pulling me out the water, throwing me over their shoulder and walking away, my body was too frozen, too numb to protest.
