Loki's POV
Candles hung from the walls and chandeliers, the orchestra strumming gentle tunes throughout the room. The royal ballroom was decorated beyond beautifully. With white silks and silver lace flowing from the curtains to the table cloths. Colorful fabrics of dresses flittering around the dance floor. People from all ally realms were here. Elven Dames and Lords were chattering amongst themselves, little pixies floating and giggling around them. Warriors and royals of Vanaheim dancing to the melody.
Asgard's Duchess' and Dukes talking with whomever they wished. I stood beside Thor, my brother, as he talked with an Elf. My eyes roamed the room, bored out of my mind.
Thor and I were not allowed to dance or drink until the clock struck midnight. Thankfully it was only an hour away. My eyes immediately caught the flutter of a shadow where it didn't belong. Now on full alert, I turn towards Thor, keeping my eyes on the shadow.
However, when it moved, I realized we had company. And not the ones invited.
"Thor, a word?" I ask politely, smiling at the girl. She blushed red and smiled back, Thor turning to me.
"What's the matter, brother?" He asked, looking at me with a quirked eyebrow. I stepped closer to him and turned my head down a little, making him do the same.
"Tell Mother and Odin that there is an uninvited guest. And not the usual type." I whispered, noting how his eyes immediately searched the room.
"Excuse me, sunshine. I'll be right back." He told the elf politely before walking off. I turned away and walked towards one of the Einherjar, giving a subtle nod. He nodded back and walked towards the doors, alerting the other guards. They immediately stood vigilant, blocking the doors and all exits from anyone entering or leaving.
Some took notice of this, jumping into a spiral of conclusions. I stood near the stairs of the throne, my eyes roaming the entire room.
Focusing on one specimen, the one in the middle of the room. Her hair was tied back, showing her sharp features. The dress she wore was the kind of a warrior. Elegant for show but ready for a battle.
Memories of our last encounter swirled through every crevice of my brain, pushing away the anxiety and nerves of a threat. The memory of her hands in my hair, her mouth on mine, her legs around my hips... her eyes watering from the pleasure, filled my every thought. When her eyes met mine from across the room, my gut knew she wasn't supposed to be here.
"Loki." Odin called for me, making me walk towards him with my eyes still on hers. "We found out who the intruder is. Her name is Y/n. And it appears you have already seen her." He said, his eye moving to where mine were.
"And what are we going to do with her?" I ask curiously. Odin hummed for a second before looking at Thor then me.
"You're in charge of getting her out of here. Do well and I'll consider the punishment I have for your actions last week" he said before going to speak with a few guards. I sighed softly and looked back at where she was supposed to be, only to see her gone.
I walked to the dance floor as another song slowly hummed through the air. I took hold of one of the ladies that swooned for me and lead her to the floor. She giggled softly and eagerly took her position. Her hand slid up my chest to my shoulder, making me suppress an eye roll.
"Hello there, my prince." Her squeaky voice made me shiver in repugnance. She clearly took it some other way, pressing her chest to mine as we danced. Before I could tell her off, my eyes focused in on y/n dancing with a duke, her soft smile aimed for me. "After this dance, would you care to join me somewhere more private?"
"No." I mumble, thanking the heavens that this dance required switching partners. Hands raised, our forearms stood beside each other before we did the same movement with our opposite arm to dance with another.
The dance went on, flutters of fabrics sweeping across the floor. My eyes still connected with a certain pair. I continued to dance, switching partners until I got to the right one.
"Well hello there." Her voice rung in my ear, making me zone out for a second. I snapped back to my own thoughts, glaring at her. "Why so hostile, baby?"
"Why are you here?" I hissed, keeping my face calm for the outside eyes. She chuckled softly as I twirled her.
"Enjoying myself." She hummed, leaning closer to me as I held her waist. I rolled my eyes subtly, moving back two steps and bowing as the dance ended. As we both rose from the lowered position, she went to walk away, only for me to grab her wrist and pull her into another dance.
The orchestra picked up the notes, spiking the air with tension. The dance was more rapid, making our aggressive moves look normal to the outsiders.
"Last time you were enjoying yourself, I had you bent over a counter and then you stole the tesseract." I say casually. She grinned suggestively.
"How about we repeat those actions? Minus the theft of course." She smiled. I glared at her and scoffed.
"You're a criminal of Asgard now. I'm going to have you arrested, my dear." I said firmly. As I finished my sentence, I felt something sharp press to the side of my neck. It was a small blade, concealed by her hand. I replicated her actions, pressing a similar blade to her side, concealing it with my hand.
"For the god of mischief and chaos, you sure are no fun." She groaned, pressing the blade deeper which I replicated.
"For such an innocent looking face, you sure are a demon." I countered. She grinned as the song ended. Before I could catch her this time, she was gone in a blink of an eye. I groaned and walked through the crowd, searching for her. Catching sight of her escaping through the curtains that led to the servant hall, I chased after her.
Moving quickly down the hall, I ignored the maids as they tried to tell me I couldn't be back here. I moved through them with ease, my eyes on the faint purple fabric that moved quickly down the hall. Soon, we were out in the family wing of the palace. She looked over her shoulder and cursed softly when she saw me. Dashing down the halls, she made sharp turns.
For a second, I wondered how she knew the palace grounds so easily. She ran into my mother's study, not even giving time for the guards to see her dash in. I moved past them quickly, hearing them shout for back up.
I walked into the study, abstaining a groan when it dawned on me that mother's study was basically a giant library.
"Split up, search every book aisle and repeat. Four of you stand guard at the doors, make sure this little vixen doesn't leave." I ordered the guards who immediately did as told. I scanned the aisles for any sign of her, finally seeing her grab a book and run off.
I chased after her, so close I could smell the sweet scent of her perfume. She ran to the door, quickly taking a different approach when she saw the guards. She ran around the room, about eight guard plus me, chasing her.
"Just give up, darling." I tutted, finally having her cornered. She panted softly before smiling at me.
"This was fun, baby. Let's do it again soon." She grinned before quickly opening the window and falling backwards through it. I ran to the open window, looking down at the ground. She had landed on a balcony below where she jumped off of that one and down to the ground, running off the palace grounds and to Valhalla knows where.
A few minutes later, Mother, Thor and Odin were in the study, waiting on any news from the guards.
"She stole the Queen's book on Norse ruins. That is the only item we found missing. And this was left behind in its place." The guard said, walking towards me and handing me a black card, my name neatly written in gold ink. I opened it and read the neatly written card.
"If you're reading this, I'd like to say thank you. Our previous meeting still lingers in my mind. If only it could've happened on a different occasion. Tell your mother her book will do great in my hands. Even with my crimes, I'll never betray my home. And Loki, next time we meet... know that you will have to use your blades. P.s. That has two meanings. Love, your favorite thief."
It was then that I felt like she stole more than just my mother's book.
Until next time, my little thief.
