Chapter 21: Revelations

A gentle knock on the door to my dorm room woke me and Sebastian up. I grabbed my bathrobe and peeked through a crack.

"Ah, good morning Ms. Opaleye, Deek is happy to see you, mostly unharmed." He glanced at my neck and chest, which were covered in bite bruises after last night, I pulled my robe tighter. "Deek was sent to inform you that Mr. Gaunt is awake and asking for you. Would you like Deek to fetch you some breakfast?"

"Ominis is awake?! No breakfast, thank you Deek!" I tried to close the door but deek held his hand on it.

"But professor Weasley insisted that Deek make sure that Ms. Opaleye eat something. Ms. Opaleye needs to focus on recovering as well." He insisted.

I groaned in response. "Ok, can you please bring me a sandwich Deek?"

"Sandwich coming up. Deek will leave it in your common room." Deek apparated away.

When I closed the door Sebastian was already buttoning up his shirt.

"Give me a couple of minutes and I'll be ready to go."

He nodded. "No rush love."

I did rush. I threw on some slacks and a jumper and quickly ran a comb through my hair. On our way out, I grabbed the sandwich Deek left me in the common room and ate it in four bites as we jogged to the medical wing.

When we reached the top of the stairs Sebastian and I could hear Nurse Matilda and professor Weasley talking to Ominis. Unable to hold the urge to see him, I started running towards his bed. I ran past a few students who were waiting to be seen and recovering in bed, they all stared at me as I ran into Ominis's arms and gave him a kiss. I could hear the students whispering amongst themselves, but I didn't care anymore. Let them say what they wanted to say, I just wanted to be in Ominis's arms, I was so glad to see him awake, and alive.

When I finally pulled away, I noticed that everyone around us was looking at us with eyes wide open. Including Sebastian.

Professor Weasley cleared her throat "Ms. Opaleye, glad to see you looking replenished. "

"Oh... Uh... Thanks professor," I couldn't help but notice she was being formal again. "Did Ominis's mother just leave?"

Nurse Matilda cut in "She actually left last night, not too long after you did. However, I thought it best to let you rest, considering the condition you were in yourself."

I was a bit irritated at that. They'd promise to notify me when she was gone so that Sebastian and I could return and be with Ominis.

Ominis placed his fingers on my chin and turned me to look at him, "it's alright darling, no need to get worked up. You're here now." He pressed his forehead to mine, and I embraced him again.

Professor Weasley turned to leave, "Well, we'll leave you to your visit. I do expect to see the three of you in my office tomorrow at noon, but please, take the day to rest and recover."

Once we heard professor Weasley stepping out of the wing and nurse Matilda chatting with one of the students waiting, we turned to Ominis.

"Mate, you're looking fantastic!" Sebastian said sarcastically giving Ominis a big bear hug.

"Oof, easy there Sallow, I am still healing." He pushed Sebastian off gently but smiled and slid his hand down Sebastian's arm.

"Sorry we didn't get here sooner Omi, are you alright? How is everything feeling?" I scooted closer to him on the bed and took his hand while Sebastian pulled a chair close and sat down.

"I'm alright. Definitely in pain, but nurse Matilda said that the damage was superficial, things should heal up in a few weeks. The darn potion she's giving me tastes and smells awful though." He smiled and squeezed my hand. I was so glad he was ok.

"Omi, did professor Weasley and nurse Matilda ask..." Ominis held his hand up and shook his head.

"I explained that I was practicing my apparation spell for the NEWTs when the incident happened and I let them know that I'd accidentally landed us near a mine, hence the soot. But then, we came right back when we realized we'd missed our destination."

Sebastian padded Ominis's shoulder hard. "NICE!"

"Ow bloody hell Sallow, gentle." Ominis gritted through his teeth.

"You won't be asking for gentle when you recover," Sebastian teased wiggling his eyebrows.

"Will you keep it down you brute?" Ominis pushed Sebastian's hand off his shoulder. "I also told professor Weasley that you had been overexerting yourself now for a few days Ophelia. Skipping meals and not sleeping well, because of all the stress of the mock exams coming up before our NEWTs. That seemed to appease her, for now. I'm sure she will question us later, so let's make sure we keep our story straight. Alright?"

"Genius mate!" Ominis rolled his eyes at Sebastian's excitement.

"Yes, that was well handled, thank you Ominis. For this, and... Everything else." I stroked his knuckle with my thumb. "So... Uhm, what did your mother...?"

Ominis shook his head, "All she did was chew my ear off about the company I keep. She insisted that I spend Christmas break at the estate, but I declined. I'm sure she'll continue to push me about it. I know they have been talking about my now delayed arranged engagement. As always, though, I will continue to turn their demands down."

"Omi, are you sure that it will all be ok? I know you've been avoiding visiting your family to not have these conversations but, if they force you..." My voice trailed off as I felt my throat closing up, the thought of losing Ominis to the grasp of his family brought tears to my eyes.

"Darling..." He raised his free hand to my cheek and wiped my tears away. "Please, do not concern yourself with such meaningless squabbles. I'm here, we're here, together," his head tilted towards Sebastian, "and no one is going to get in the way of that."

I reached for Sebastian's hand and held all our hands together. "Promise?"

Ominis smiled, "I promise."

"I promise." Echoed Sebastian.

Sebastian scooted closer to us, "sooo...Does this mean we're not hiding things from everyone at school now?" Sebastian raised a naughty eyebrow in my direction.

"Uhm... What exactly do you mean by that?" I asked, concern suddenly filling my brain.

He leaned even closer to me, "Well, you ran in here and kissed Ominis. At least ten other students saw. I'm sure the whole school will know that the head boy and girl are dating by dinner time." I felt my whole body turning red.

"I uh..." Now that I'd had time to cool down my anxiety started to kick in.

"And honestly love, I don't really intend on taking the sidelines in this relationship." Sebastian took my chin and planted a loud sloppy kiss on me. My eyes went wide as I looked over his shoulder at the groups of students glancing at us, their faces as surprised as mine. All I could hear beyond the pounding of my heart was Ominis whining from pain as he tried to hold his laughter back.
