"Hmm these oatmeal and cinnamon pasties are delicious," I said taking another bite. "The elves are truly outdoing themselves."
"Yes, I was starving!" Sebastian added swallowing another pasty whole.
Ominis chuckled "You're always starving Sebastian. Are you guys almost ready?" Ominis suddenly sounded a bit annoyed.
"Yeah, all set," Sebastian raised an eyebrow in Ominis's direction, "everything alright with you?"
"Hmm yes, I just remembered I need to run by the herbology class room to pick something up. I'll meet you two back in the common room."
"Do you want us to come along Omi?"
"No, that's alright, I'll be quick. I'll see you shortly." Ominis stood up and almost jogged out the door.
"What's with him?" Sebastian asked.
"I don't know... Maybe he's just stressed about the holidays, I don't think he's reached a decision with his family about spending his time off at their estate." I shrugged.
"Maybe. Hey can we actually go by the library really quick? I need to drop off this book." Sebastian said as he pulled out a book about runes from his pack.
"Yeah, no problem, come on." I said as we started heading towards the library.
Sebastian and I stepped out into the courtyard and we heard Ominis's voice, he sounded agitated.
"Is that Ominis? He sounds angry, come on, hurry! " Sebastian and I headed to the alcove by the lake where we'd heard Ominis.
"I know you and Sebastian have this weird arrangement with her, but did you have to ask her to the Winter Ball too!? You were supposed to go with me!" As we approached we realized Ominis was arguing with Violet McDowell.
"My mother might've made you promises, but I will not delight their demands." Ominis answered waving his hand out dismissively.
Sebastian held his arm out in front of me and blocked my way, he put his finger to his lips asking me to stay quiet and turned back towards their conversation.
"Your mother made promises to my parents, and you will keep them Gaunt, unless you'd like me to alert your parents about your illicit relationship with the troll slayer and your little friend." Violet snide at the mention of me and Sebastian.
"If you so much as open your mouth...!" Ominis started to threaten.
"Ominis!" Sebastian stepped out from behind the wall, I followed but hid behind his tall figure.
"We're done here." Ominis stated as he turned on his heel and walked in our direction.
"We are not done Ominis, you have a week!" Violet called after him angrily.
Sebastian grabbed Ominis's arm as we chased after him "do you want to share with the group Gaunt, what the hell was that about?!"
"Not here Sebastian." He snapped.
"Ominis, what the hell..!?" Sebastian kept pushing.
"I said not here." He barked. In all these years I had never seen Ominis this angry and cold towards us, not even after everything that happened with Sebastian a couple of years ago.
We followed quietly after him, when we made it to our common room he dropped his weight in the armchair and pinched the bridge of his nose. "You two were supposed to head back here after lunch. Where you following me?"
Sebastian scuffed. "Ballsy, accusing us of spying? If you must know, we were headed to the library. You, however, lied to us. You said you were going to the herbology classroom, and just what the hell is the deal with Violet and you? What are you hiding Ominis?" Sebastian was really worked up, and I felt like I'd had the wind knocked out of me.
