Chapter 7: That First Confession

Qeef looks at his watch and starts to pace the room nervously.

"What should I do? Should I just be blunt and open up?" Qeef mumbles while still pacing back and forth endlessly.

He's been keeping tabs on everything that has happened in the last few weeks. At the top of his list are Tengku Azmi and Naim's names, which seem to have been permanently etched onto his mind.

"Who do I think I am? Why would Eli even give me a chance? She's way out of my league." Qeef starts to doubt himself. The door is suddenly swung opened and Ruby enters the room.

"Qeef, why are you still not ready yet? Your scene is in 10 minutes! Hurry up!" Ruby almost yelling in disbelief. Instead of hurrying to get ready, Qeef stops Ruby from leaving.

"Ru...ruby... I have something to ask" says Qeef stammering with uncertainty. He is in a real jam and he needs someone to help him figure out what to do.

"What is it? Hurry up or else go get ready" says Ruby firmly. She doesn't have the time to entertain Qeef nor bicker with him. Qeef looks at her nervously.

"The hell with it" thinks Qeef not wanting to pass up the opportunity.

"Actually, I need your opinion about Eli. Lately, you've been quite close to her. So... I err... I need to know what she thinks about me." It was a struggle but ultimately Qeef is able to ask what he's been dying to know.

"Oh boy" Ruby is alarmed. She has to be very careful answering that question. She can't be too honest with Qeef and risks giving him hope of something uncertain. And she also doesn't want him to be too distracted from his work.

"If you want my opinion, I would suggest that you just focus on your work" answers Ruby playing it safe.

Qeef's disappointment is too apparent that Ruby begins to have second thoughts. Qeef is already like a younger brother to her and she cares about him more than just an actor she's charged with. She can't bear to see him disappointed.

"I would like you to prioritise your work, but I also understand that this is a matter of the heart. So what I can say is, if you don't try you'll never know. As a girl I could see that she may be interested in you too." Says Ruby, finally giving in to that doleful look on Qeef's face.

Qeef raises his head at Ruby's suggestion. He smiles a little and his eyes glimmer with hope.

"Now go get ready! You need to go back to being an actor for the next scene" orders Ruby as she quickly closes the door behind her.

Eli scrolls her TikTok and clicks on the notifications. She saw Qeef's name leaving a comment on one of her posts. Eli clicks on the link to discover that Qeef has just liked one of her postings from two years ago.

"Cutie!" Says his comment. Eli chuckles. She types her reply and click send.

"hehe. stalker!" Eli's reply to Qeef's comment. She smiles wondering why such a simple comment could send her up on cloud nine. But not long before she's jerked back down to earth by the sound of someone entering the room.

Qeef has just finished his scene. As usual, the first thing he does when he's free is look for Eli. As soon as he sees Eli in the room, he comes over to sit next to her. Eli who was looking intensely at her phone screen quickly flips it over. She knows Qeef too well to know that he would try to take a peek.

"Hey, no peeking!" Says Eli hiding her phone behind her back. She doesn't want Qeef to know that she's been staring at his comment all these while. Unable to see her screen, Qeef moves his face closer to Eli's instead, wanting to read her by looking at her beautiful face.
