Chapter 19
Away
My father arranged our flight to Munich for the first week of March. Originally, I was going to book a seat in first class and travel alone kasi naroon pa rin 'yung takot kong makihalubilo sa maraming tao—lalo na ang ma-stuck kasama sila sa loob ng mahabang oras. But Daddy got me the whole plane and he insisted on going with me.
Onboard the big aircraft, we didn't wait for long 'cause we had it for only the two of us and five crews. Knowing that there were no other passengers felt kinda awkward, but I thought it was for the better.
"How much luggage did you have again?" Daddy asked me when we entered the first-class cabin.
I counted on my mind. "I brought five, Dad..." Then I watched his reaction even if I already knew what would it be.
"Five, huh?" He smirked to tease me. "Are you going to settle down in Germany? You have six in total..."
He pointed at my hand carry and helped me with it before we took our seats.
"Dad, I have a lot of clothes, shoes, bags—"
Natatawa siyang umiling. "Pwede kang bumili ro'n. I'm sure your Lola Melanie will always take you to the mall.
"Well, I don't want to repeat my clothes so I packed almost everything I have. And I don't want them to spoil me too much. I just wanna be there to unwind..."
Pinisil niya ang ilong ko. "Okay po, Ate Isla! Just don't break your promise. You know he can't travel back and forth because of school."
Speaking of Adam, I borrowed Dad's phone and texted him before the takeoff. Kapalit ng pagpayag ni Mama, I had to bring him with me.
Umilaw 'yung seat belt sign kaya ikinabit namin iyon at umayos sa pagkaka-upo. I didn't even look outside and just went straight into closing the window. 22 hours... What a long journey!
We left at dawn, so I took some time to sleep. And when I went to the lavatory, I heard from one of the cabin crew that he prepared the food himself.
Back to the cabin, in my pink bunny onesie, I sat beside my father and rested my head on his shoulder. I didn't take my eyes off the laptop screen as I locked my arms on his.
"What is it?"
"What are you doing, Dad?"
"Do you wanna sleep again? Wala pa tayo sa kalahati..." aniya.
I shook my head as I glanced up at him. "Dito lang po ako, Dad. Gusto kitang panoorin mag-trabaho."
"Alright, then," inayos niya 'yung bunny ears at nagpatuloy sa pag-tipa.
My father isn't just the President of an airline company, he's also a private pilot and a mechanical engineer. That was why I was in awe of watching him do his work after being apart from him for a long time.
