Boyfriend

I looked at our intertwined hands after Triton took the lead. We just kept on circling—looking so happy and lost in our little world. With that flirtatious smile, he tilted his head to glance at me while I bit my lip to hide mine.

"Triton, s-stop looking at me like that!" I protested while blushing so hard.

Amused, he used the toe-pick like a pro and turned around to face me properly. "Tinitingnan ko lang naman ang girlfriend ko. Wala namang masama ro'n, 'di ba? Hindi ko na kailangang sulyapan ka ng patago dahil... girlfriend na kita."

Girlfriend... That word sent shivers down my spine. And even if I heard it a million times, I'd still get the same feeling.

Suminghap ako at pinadulas ang mga paa palayo sa kanya. Ramdam ko ang pag-init ng mga pisngi ko nang dahil sa mga sinabi niya. How could he be so... How could he even say that without stuttering? Hindi 'tulad ko na mas mauuna pa atang matunaw kaysa sa yelo. So direct and honest!

Mabilis akong hinarangan ni Triton na ngayo'y nagpipigil na ng ngiti. Ibinaling ko ang mga mata ko sa ibang direksyon at huminga ng malalim. But I got tempted to glance back at him. Ngumuso ako at pabirong hinampas ang kanyang dibdib bilang ganti sa mapang-asar niyang ngiti. And he caught my hand before I could take it off his chest.

"You can't escape from me anymore..." he uttered softly, filling all the spaces between my fingers with his.

"But I'm not trying to escape from you. I won't go away," seryoso at may laman kong sinabi.

Satisfaction crossed his face. "I'm glad to hear that. You know my day would be gloomy if my sunshine goes away..."

Hinawakan niya ang isa kong kamay at marahang hinatak papalapit sa kanya. Smiling through his eyes, he slowly bowed his head and planted a kiss on my forehead. I smiled and slipped my hands in his arms as he caged my body for a hug.

Isinandal ko ang ulo ko sa kanyang dibdib bago pumikit. "Can you pinch me? This isn't a dream, right?"

Sa halip na gawin ang sinabi ko, niyakap niya ako ng mahigpit kaya umangat ang mga paa ko mula sa yelo. Dumilat ako at kusang naglakbay ang mg braso ko upang ipulupot ang mga 'yon sa leeg niya. He tightened his grip on my waist as he lifted me higher—making me scream and laugh a little. I bent my legs upward as he swayed me around like a kid.

"Oh my gosh! What are you doing?" hindi makapaniwala kong tanong sa gitna ng pag-tawa.

Tumawa rin si Triton at ipinagpatuloy ang ginagawa. I had no idea how much time he spent on the ice, but to pull this off while maintaining a good balance was so impressive! If he did this on the ground, I'd be like, "Okay, this is so fun! Para kaming typical couple na naghaharutan." But our situation right now was different; he was strong and confident as if he'd been doing it for years.

He stopped spinning me around. "This is definitely not a dream, Isla. Kaya dapat ngayon pa lang masanay ka na." Slowly, he put me down and supported my waist while staring into my eyes. "I'm not perfect; I'm far from being perfect. This is my first relationship and I know I have a lot to learn, but there's one thing I'm sure of: I'll try my best to be a good boyfriend para hindi mo pagsisihan na tinanggap mo ako sa buhay mo at piniling mahalin ako."

I beamed at him as my eyes watered. I was speechless and I could only wish to feel this happiness every day—with him. Alam kong maaga pa para magsalita ng tapos, pero wala akong pagsisisihan dahil sa nag-iisang rason na siya si Triton...

I bit my lower lip as I watched him tie his shoelaces. Then, my gaze traveled up to his face. Oh, that side profile... His hair was disheveled after playing with me in the rink. Bahagyang nakakunot ang makakapal at pantay niyang mga kilay. I was standing, so I could see his long eyelashes down his pointed nose. And the dimples in his cheeks would show up even with the slightest movement of his mouth.
