Chapter 16

Scam

They were clueless and shocked; they never saw it coming. I didn't plan to make it a big deal, pero wala pang isang oras ay kalat na kalat na iyon sa social media.

A lot of people are adding their two scents and creating some crazy theories to back up their claims. They even mentioned and tagged the ISU and IOC. Now my account was bombarded with messages, urging me to explain.

"Dad, I must make a statement. They can't just call me a cheater. I didn't do such a thing!"

"You will, with the presence of our lawyer. This is a serious matter, Isla, so we have to be careful. And we have to track the IP address to find out who created the misleading post."

One of them said that they shouldn't let me leave the country and detain me for cheating.

"Someone stalked your grandma's account for sure. But who has the motive? This is seriously getting out of hand!"

Again, the photos weren't edited, making it easier for them to accuse me. Maybe, it was out of curiosity that's why he posted it and it got viral. And it was natural for people to believe it because it was suspicious that my grandmother would spend a good time with the judge who participated in my recent competition where I was proclaimed as one of the winners.

But who started it? Si Nikola ba? Because she already knew about it when she confronted me that day. May laman ang mga sinabi niya, eh. And if she really did it, she wouldn't make it too obvious to avoid getting caught.

I rested my head on my mom's shoulder as I listened to their sentiments.

"I promise, my photos with Ivy Lewis aren't recent! Those were taken years ago back when I was the one who accompanied Isla in her competitions abroad! And even before that, we became good friends when she visited the Philippines as a guest speaker at the figure skating camp organized by the Philippine Skating Union. Her words encouraged the young Isla to pursue the sport and join international competitions. We also share the same interests and bought limited-edition items together! She might've been a judge in the Olympics, but she did her job fairly!" paliwanag ni Lola Anastasia dahil pakiramdam niya ay sinisisi siya sa nangyari.

Ivy Lewis is an American philanthropist and she's known for skating recreationally. She shares her love and passion for the sport in her blogs and books. Marami na siyang natulungan na figure skaters lalo na sa US; she would hire coaches for their free training and would sometimes provide them ice skates and dresses that they would use in their competitions.

Mama groaned. "Siguro hindi alam ng iba, but being a figure skating judge is voluntary. And official judges are reimbursed for their out-of-pocket expenses but that's it! Besides, Ivy Lewis is already rich before she married a billionaire!

My gosh! Are they blind? Para namang hindi sila nanood? Isla got that medal on her own! You could never pay for that talent! It's a gift!" Tita Alice said frustratingly.
