Chapter 34
Rejected
I couldn't help but tear up as I read the last sentence of the last chapter of the last book of Percy Jackson & the Olympians. There may have been some parts that I wanted to know more about, but I couldn't ask for a better ending than this. Above all, I was so grateful to Triton for sharing his favorite novel with me.
I closed the book and let out a deep breath. I made the right choice to read it before hitting the ice 'cause now my mood lit up big time. Tumayo ako at nag-unat muna ng katawan. I walked toward the rink and gave the Zamboni's operator a thumbs up.
"Thank you, Sir!" I shouted as I happily removed the guards.
It was Sunday morning and it was supposed to be my rest day, but I wanted to practice even without the presence of my coaches. And I would stay in the condo for a few days for the exams.
I played a random song and just went on freestyle. My jumps and spins have improved a lot, but I needed to work on the axel; it was either pre-rotated or under-rotated. Bad jumps would show themselves by the noises I made, especially in my attempt at triple axel. So now, I would focus on that specific jump.
For a while, I moved my whole body and just felt the music. Then, here comes the forward momentum where the blades skid sideways, grazing the ice as I launched myself up high. I executed the double axels, but even the casual viewers would know that it was a popped jump.
I tried again until I successfully landed it, at least, with a bit of uneasiness. I did the backward crossovers as I traveled across the rink and its sound calmed me down. With a quick spin, I went forward and vaulted into the air. I slipped down the ice and my body splashed away into the boards.
"Woah! Did I just... That was quadruple axels!"
Placing both hands on my waist, I skated back in the middle and shook my head. Tulala ako habang iniisip 'yung nangyari. Obviously, it was over-rotated and not perfect. But I just did it! I twirled four times! I was capable of doing it!
"Oh, my gosh..." I mumbled as I couldn't believe it.
Maybe, it was just luck, but with proper training and techniques, I'd be able to do it again. But now I didn't dare try to do another one as I didn't want to kill myself on the spot. My body felt so tired and I could feel the pain in my back, so I ended my practice immediately.
Adam would accompany me and he wanted to trim his hair.
"Ma'am, mag papa-trim ka rin po ba? Your hair's very long and I can see the split ends..." sabi ng may-ari ng salon saka hinaplos ang dulo ng buhok ko.
I looked at the mirror and realized that it had already reached my buttocks. I twitched my mouth and thought about it for a second.
"Right, it's too long. Paki-bawasan na lang po hanggang sa waist. I still want to keep it long," sagot ko.
I glanced at my brother and smirked 'cause he was serious about getting a proper haircut this time. For his crush, of course.
They insisted on keeping my curtain bangs and the rest was just straight with little curls in the end.
