The Night Before Tomorrow

'Twas the night before tomorrow, when, as was her habit

Kat had finally finished playing with her little gray rabbit.

The quilts were carefully hung outside in the air

In the hopes that random birds soon would nest there.

Recently, instead of simply just going to sleep

Kat would mentally deconstruct patterns made from the wool of the sheep.

At two A.M. she would lie wide awake in her bed

While visions of advanced knitting patterns danced in her head.

With intricately twisted cables, and fancy Fair Isle

She had secretly been plotting on doing these things for a while.

Now was her chance, (she'd teach!) while to it her mother was new

There were all these amazing techniques that she had yet to get to.

Unbeknownst to her mother, who only saw Kat vanish,

She knew not how her daughter would quietly panic

Whenever the girl realized that she'd never live long enough

To ever possibly survive to make all of her stuff.

Sitting silently in her closet with two sticks and some string

Eating dry cereal for energy, her hands she would wring.

Passing soft yarn over her needles, she'd sit and she'd knit

Because that was the only place in her room where she could actually fit.

Upon remembering that she still had some quilting to get to

Kat's head flurried in a bit of a to-do.
