Chapter 16
Celestine's stomach flipped. Her heartbeat stopped. Her jaw dropped. Her feelings paused.
She pretended to yawn and uttered, "I think I need to sleep now. See you guys tomorrow."
Samuel lifted his eyes up to Celestine. Her face showed a forlorn expression. As soon as she got to her feet, she sauntered towards the tent. Her legs moved as if she drank litres of alcohol.
Samuel worriedly asked, "Are you okay, Celestine?"
Her throat was too dry to respond and her heart shattered into pieces. She never looked back and never made contact with Samuel.
Guilty enough of Celestine's walk out scene, Royce went after her but Bianca was swift enough to pull him back. She dragged him to sit down and confronted him, "Do you know what you just did, Royce?"
"I know. That's why you should let me go," he said, accounting his fault.
"Stop, guys! I'll talk to her," Samuel butted in.
"Samuel. I have one more question. Why did you say 'yes'," Royce asked while trying to escape from Bianca's taut grip.
"Royce! Stop it," Bianca stormed at him.
But instead of avoiding the question, Samuel bravely answered, "I said 'yes' because it's true. What I said was true. I still like Annie."
"You should have said 'No', Samuel. You know that she has feelings for you. Respect. That's what you should have done when Royce popped out the question. And you Royce shouldn't have asked that in front of her," Bianca told them off.
"She has feelings for me? No way," Samuel asked in surprise, hesitant to believe what Bianca had said.
"What the hell, Samuel?! You are a very stupid man not notice her feelings for you. Did you see her reaction when you said 'yes'?"
"No, Bianca. It's impossible! She hates me and she likes Tyler."
Royce interjected, "There you go. We get it now. You're jealous and you said 'yes' to make her jealous. Am I right young man?" He teased him, raising both his eyebrows and giggled like a kid.
Samuel stood frozen and silent. He didn't know how to answer. There's something inside him that tells him that 'yes, I was just trying to make her jealous' but there's also something inside him that tells him that 'No, I was just saying the truth. I like Annie and Celestine should know about it.' He lifted his hands to his face, unsure what to feel.
After what seemed to be hours, he treaded in front of Royce and rammed him on the chest.
"You want an answer! No!" Samuel bawled at him.
He headed to the shore and screamed as loud as he could. His screams echoed back. He took a pew on the sand. He reached for his wallet and pulled out a letter from one of its pockets.
