you liked to tell me that I'd find someone better
that I deserved someone with better qualities
someone who would be there every time
someone who made promises they could keep
someone who didn't make me feel sad or angry
someone who treated me as I should be
but not once did you ever say
that somebody better could be you
someone who stopped being late
someone who didn't break promises
someone who made me feel happy and excited
someone who respected and loved me
because that could have been you
if only you'd tried a little harder a little sooner
