Josephine deftly braids the final strand of her hair, then carefully places the crown Regulus had discovered atop her head. As she admires her reflection, a pleasant feeling of beauty washes over her, though she can't help but wonder how long it will last.
Securing the crown in place, Josephine pins it to her hair, ensuring it will remain intact throughout the night. The Halloween party is taking place in the Gryffindor common room, and while the teachers are likely aware of it, they seem to let the festivities slide, given the occasion.
Throughout the day, Josephine's brother and his friends have been up to all sorts of mischievous tricks. Thankfully, she has managed to avoid falling victim to any of them.
A knock on the bathroom door interrupts her thoughts, and Dorcas's voice calls out, urging her to finish up. Josephine opens the door, greeted by Dorcas dressed as a popular Quidditch player, matching with Marlene.
Dorcas's eyes widen as she takes in Josephine's appearance. "You look absolutely stunning," she exclaims, taking hold of Josephine's hand and twirling her around. Laughter escapes Josephine's lips as she spins.
"You and Marlene are going to make the perfect pair," Josephine remarks as Dorcas brings her twirling to a halt.
Dorcas smirks mischievously. "Wait until Regulus sees you. He won't know what hit him."
Josephine furrows her eyebrows in confusion. "Why?"
Rolling her eyes, Dorcas replies, "Jo, it's pretty obvious that he likes you. He's genuinely kind to you."
The notion that Regulus Black could harbor feelings for her seems implausible. Yes, he treats her well, but she can't fathom why he would be interested.
"Hey," Dorcas interrupts her thoughts, "let's not get lost in overthinking. Tonight is all about having fun."
Josephine nods, determined to push aside her doubts. "You're right. Let's go." Still, Dorcas's words linger in her mind as they make their way to the Gryffindor common room, where the lively Halloween party is in full swing. The enchanting music, amplified by magic, fills the air, setting the stage for a memorable night.
