Josephine does not understand Regulus Black's behavior.
Despite them dating, she can't comprehend his recent shift in demeanor. Not too long ago, they were stealthily navigating the corridors of Hogwarts together, but now he seems distant, though she is hesitant to classify it as outright ignoring. Instead, it feels more like a subtle withdrawal. Could she have possibly messed up in some way? Is it worth addressing this issue, or should she simply let it slide, as she typically would?
Opting for the more challenging path, Josephine resolves to initiate a conversation about their relationship. Even though every time she tries to bring something that bothers her up she gets shaky hands and a pain in the back of her throat.
Spotting Regulus walking down an empty corridor, Josephine boldly positions herself in his path. "Josephine," he greets, his posture suggesting he might just walk away. She seizes the opportunity to speak, determined to unearth the truth.
"Listen, you've been distant lately, and I'm just wondering if something's wrong. Did I do something to upset you? Is it—" She catches herself, refraining from further words.
Regulus sighs, his gaze darting around the hallway before he gently takes Josephine's hand and guides her to a quiet corner. She waits in anticipation for his explanation. "I've never been in a relationship like this," he begins hesitantly. "I'm not sure what I'm doing."
Frowning, Josephine is taken aback. She thought that whatever he had been doing was remarkable. After all, she lacks any prior experiences to compare it to. "I'm also... afraid," he admits, his voice barely above a whisper, as if the words are too heavy to voice aloud. "My parents won't approve of us."
Josephine reassures him, "The only way they would know is if someone saw us. It's not like we're kissing in public."
Regulus manages a faint smile. "I'm sorry I've been acting strangely. I'll try to do better."
"It's okay," Josephine responds gently. "I just want to make sure everything is alright."
Regulus scans the hallway once more before cupping the side of her face and leaning in to kiss her. Despite the fear of their actions in a potentially public space, she reciprocates for a brief moment before pulling away. "You see, we're kissing in public now. Anyone could see," she whispers, her lips brushing against his before she steps back.
He leans closer and admits, "Couldn't help myself, jolie fille."
Her face flushes slightly as she raises her eyebrows. "Goodbye now, Regulus," she says before turning around and making her exit.
