~~~~~~~
The end of the school day approached and Thomas sucked in a sharp breath through his teeth, creating a gentle yet fast whistling noise. He briefly felt himself getting tired, he was much more exhausted than he expected himself to be - his body was not responding to re-entering his old routine in the best of ways. Thomas had gone through the day having Madison be about 90% of his impulse control. The first few students to get his attention in the morning were alright, but as the day dragged on into lunch-time and his lessons past the interaction he'd had with Angelica he found the loud atmosphere almost insufferable and an actual headache had followed. He was very close to losing his shit when he heard a few of the younger girls giggling at him in the hall - he had no idea what exactly they found so funny but he definitely did not fail in scaring them away back to their side of the school. He was able to blow off some smoke on the way to meet Madison at their lunch table, and the other put a hand on his taller friend's shoulder to calm him down - he popped the question, finally.
["Thomas, did you take your meds today?" asked Madison, looking over his friend's shoulder with concern. At this moment Thomas was a lot taller than James, but James was sure on his was to catch up... hopefully. Jefferson looked over to his friend, his face red as if he were a bull coming down from the trauma of seeing a red flag. "What?" his voice sounded much more caught off guard than his face showed - "Did you remember to take your meds..?" asked Madison once more, a little more hesitant this time as he looked upon Thomas's annoyed face, he clearly wasn't used to seeing him in such a snappy state. "I.." Thomas spoke before his brain could clearly process the question, shaking his head, "No I haven't." he admitted. "That explains... A lot" sighed James, "You need to remember them tomorrow" he said in a reassuring voice, but Thomas was on the contrary. "No" he blurted, harsher than intended, his eyes widened at the force of his words before he cleared his throat, "I don't need them James" he said. James raised a confused eyebrow at his friend, waiting for Thomas to carry on explaining - "They're nothing but control, I don't need them" he sat up straight in his seat to appear more confident, but Madison had no idea what to make of Thomas's rambling. "Thomas that's not how medication works..." sighed James, "How would you know?" retorted Thomas. A silence fell between them, letting the loud chaos of the cafeteria fill in the blank of their conversation as the two shared a mutually disappointed look. "You realised how dumb you sound?" asked Madison after a brief moment, raising his eyebrow once more but in a matter-of-fact way this time, "Yeah" sighed Thomas, shaking his head again. "I really do need to work on that huh..." Thomas whispered to himself before breathing in an air of sweaty pubescent air, "Alright. Look I'll prove I don't need some deadweight pills to keep me in line, alright?" he looked to James, but his question remained unanswered as it was evident in Thomas's voice that it was rhetorical. "Now, wanna go get food? The lunch line has gone down" Thomas looked over to the big line, his stomach twisting with hunger as he looked to the students who left the canteen with plates and paper tissues of food. "Mhm" hummed along James, seeming to move on from the topic just as fast as the two boys got up in unison, as if sharing the same starving braincell]
Now, after another long hour and a half, Thomas was standing by the lockers - waiting for Madison's reassurance before he headed to the library, unsure of what was waiting for him. He'd almost dozed off in his last English lesson - he saw Eliza, but oddly, Alexander was not there. It's not as if he was worried... Well, he was. But not for the right reasons. He feared the fact that Alexander may have skipped town, gone home, and now he would have to carry the anxiety of a conversation until, who knows how long? Or, even worse, what if he and Lafayette were planning something? That was definitely worse. He wouldn't be at all surprised after what happened. His anxiety ate him from the inside until the rambling of his teacher faded into white noise and he could barely help his drooping eyes. He shouldn't be falling asleep. He had exams coming up.
