"Come on, I told you this already. You need to place your foot like this." Akaguro went through the motion, telling me how to land properly.
For the past week, this is what we've been doing together.
Training.
Right now I was trying to land from several meters high without making a sound. I've also been completing several contracts, mostly from scared fathers who wish to protect their children.
But, one job I did was delivering something. A briefcase holding some kind of information. There was a logo on the case, one I hadn't seen before, depicting a man held up in strings, but I never bothered to investigate it.
In between training we would talk. Find out things about each other. To the point where I would call her my friend.
And for the first time since I was four, I felt like a child again whenever we talked.
And it set my heart a flutter.
A feeling inside me arose, one I haven't felt before.
I tried imitating her motion, getting a nod of approval in response before getting back on the building again and jumping off.
When I landed, I tried doing the motion, but there was still sound.
"It's better, you just need practice." Her calm voice almost soothes me, but I need to be better. She looked down at her phone, her eyes widening in surprise. "Oh crap, I need to go. I'll see ya tomorrow right?" I nod my head, giving a small wave as she left.
I heave a sigh, looking up at the building before climbing back up again and trying again.
I need to get this.
I need to be better.
A couple hours later, I would find myself on another contract, trying to put Akaguro's lessons to use and try and retrieve some information.
I wore a long coat, long enough to hide my blade along with any other tools I may have. A piece of advice Akaguro gave me.
I kept my head low, weaving in between the crowd, getting closer to my target. I kept my feet light, observing a man holding a briefcase with a pair of handcuffs keeping it close to his body.
The man took a seat on a wooden bench in front of tall building, looking at his phone for some kind of indicator. As I get closer, i unsheathe my katana, the crowd around me unaware of my actions as the space between us got smaller and smaller.
With his eyes away from the case I moved behind the bench and made one swift move, testing the sharpness of my blade by cutting the chain links of the cuffs instantly.
His eyes stayed glued to the phone, giving me an opportunity to grab the case, reaching in between the bench and grabbing it with ease, slipping it out of his grasp.
I push the briefcase under my armpit and sheathe my blade once more, using my coat to hide everything.
Everything went smoothly.
Just as planned.
I handed off the case, uncaring as to what I might have given.
Uncaring as to who I was giving it too.
And when I realised this, I stopped.
I told Shinobu to only give me contracts that help people, not businesses, or someone looking for revenge.
And one contract came through, a contract that shocked me to no bound.
A contract that came from another country, asking for help in a civil war.
