Lisa knew she was a year late when she enrolled into the university. She also knew that she would be a year behind her former classmates. But, she needed a year away from Korea. She needed a year to truly know what she wanted in life. Most importantly, she needed a year away from Jennie Kim.
After her graduation, she flew back to Thailand. But now she's back with a clearer mind and heart. Has she moved on from Jennie? Perhaps. For the first time in a while, however, she knew her heart no longer prioritized Jennie. It prioritized herself.
And now, being filled with excitement, Lisa rolled her luggages through the halls of her dorm, ready to meet her roommate. A roommate, how exciting, she thought. She was an only child and the only person she ever shared a room with was with– she shook her head. In no way will she attempt to reminisce about past sleepovers.
Finally and slightly breathlessly, she made it in front of her door. She shook her limbs and jumped once before taking a deep inhale. And, with a nervous exhale, she quickly unlocked the door and opened it roughly, meeting surprised almond eyes.
"Oh!" The girl gasped sitting up from her bed, quickly chewing before swallowing what looked like potato chips. Lisa smiled apologetically,
"Sorry, I didn't mean to barge in like that," Lisa apologized to her blonde roommate. She was very pretty, Lisa thought to herself. She was thinner built than Lisa with a gentle kind of beauty. The blonde removed her laptop from her lap and stood up, smiling sweetly,
"No worries." Nor, is what it really sounded like. Lisa realized she was not raised from Korea. "I'm Chaeyoung," she continued, "You must be Lisa," she extended her hand forward. Lisa matched her smile and accepted her hand,
"I am, it's nice to meet you."
"Likewise," she glanced over Lisa's shoulder and motioned with her head, "Do you need help?"
Lisa shocked her head, "No, I got it," she reassured before dragging her luggages inside her room. She took a deep inhale and smiled in content, "Looks cozy in here." And it was.
On one side, it was clear that it was Lisa's considering how empty and blank it looked compared to Chaeyoung's side.
Her comforter was a soft petal pink with an acorn stuffy laying on top. Her walls had pictures from, what looked like her childhood along with pictures of her graduation. She also had a picture of a fish and a dog. It was cute. Lisa then glanced to the corner and noticed a guitar.
"You play?"
Chaeyoung followed her gaze and nodded, "A bit. I hope it won't bother you if I suddenly and randomly play." Lisa shook her head, meeting Chaeyoungs guilty expression with a soft smile,
"I won't mind at all."
It was then that both knew they were going to get along just fine.
Later that day, after Lisa was unpacked and settled, she invited Lisa to have dinner with her and her friends. Lisa nearly denied it but she was a sucker for pouts.
That was another thing Lisa came to terms with, her identity. Her preference. She was now out and proud, basically.
She nervously admitted to Chaeyoung in case she ever brought another girl to the dorm romantically. And, being as sweet and kind as Chaeyoung, she did not show any ounce of discomfort.
In short, she was okay with it. Lisa never felt so welcomed in a very long time. Other than her accepting parents of course.
Arms locked together, Chaeyoung led her to the dining hall where her friends were waiting for her. It consisted of two girls and one guy. On the way there, Chaeyoung gave Lisa a few details saying how one of the girls was dating the guy while the other was single with amazing humor. They all have been friends for a year now so Lisa was quite excited to meet new people.
