Whispers broke out in the meeting room as Haiden kept his face relaxed, eyes trained on his father. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Draco looking at him, stealing glances, careful not to stare. Haiden let a smirk grace his lips as he tilted his head slightly, "Well? " His voice wasn't loud but the shocking reality of someone thought dead sitting right in front of their eyes, made them freeze. The authority of the voice commanded their tongues to halt as if it were the most natural thing. Yes, it truly was the Dark Lord's son and truly worthy to be so.In the midst of the silence a cackle broke out-loud, free, maddening. Haiden's eyes darkened and he grinned, he looked every bit the mad that the Lestrange family was known for, and that sent chills down the spine of the other death eaters. Bellatrix's maddening cackle turned into a maniacal smile as she looked Haiden over, "I have questions. " This statement caused the colour to leave the other deatheaters' faces. Haiden raised his eyebrow, sitting up straighter he leaned towards her direction quickly shutting down the protesters' dumbfounded shouts with a raised hand. "Speak" He said, eyes on hers. Bellatrix was the Dark Lord's right hand and although he needn't answer her, he wanted to show her their places. He will not be intimidated by anyone, no matter how crazy.
"Who were you before the truth was revealed? " Bellatrix uttered the million dollar question, no beating around the bush. The question caused everyone's curiosity to peak and the members of the meeting looked at him expectantly. But what nobody expected was for him to laugh. A deep, airy sound, bone chilling and loud. He leaned back into his chair, cutting of his laughter, there was a twisted humor in his eyes. He looked at his father who had been quiet since the beginning, The Dark Lord nodded, it was a go ahead. He addressed Bellatrix, "Oh you're quite familiar. " Confused whispers broke out in the room, but Haiden kept his eyes trained on her, who's eyes glazed over in thought.
He enjoyed the restlessness of the deatheaters for a few seconds, knowing full well how their jumbled minds would look over every possible prospect but never reach the desired answer. "Does the name 'Harry Potter' ring a bell? " He said and chaos ensued. There were shouts of disbelief, but the only person Haiden was looking at was Draco Malfoy. His eyes were wide, trained on the table, mouth slightly agape as he took in shuddering breaths. Haiden made a mental note to talk to him later about it.
"Enough." He said, voice loud enough to be heard over the commotion, yet low enough to be a warning. He turned to Bellatrix, an expectant gesture as he waited. "How do we know you're not one of Dumbledore's lakeys? " She spoke finally, there was a challenge in her voice, mockery in her tone and it made Haiden's finger twitch in distaste. The action was inconspicuous enough to not be noticed and his cold expression betrayed his general displeasure by her blatant disregard of his identity after the revelation. There was a difference in being careful and being careless and Bellatrix's question had crossed that line.
A scream sounded through the meeting room while the others trembled in terror, Bellatrix Lestrange, the madwoman who swooned at the idea of torture, was writhing on the ground, screaming in pain. The cruciatus curse was merciless in nature as it is, the cold contempt of the caster made the curse freeze the blood of the victim while making all their nerves burn. The Dark Lord finally spoke, "Haiden." It was a command.
Haiden let go of the curse, without as much as batting an eye. He leaned back, a sign of surrendering the control of the meeting to Voldemort. Bellatrix stood up, not quite gaining back her composure, her eyes were bloodshot, her body trembling and the smile wiped off of her face. "I hope all questions regarding my son have been answered. " Voldemort stated not so much as he asked. "Yes, my Lord. " Bellatrix said as she resumed her place on the table. Haiden however couldn't care less for her, he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy.
*Haiden's POV*
My eyes strayed from my father's right hand and my aunt to scan the rest of the room. I didn't give a shit what they thought of me, fear would do before they learned to respect me. The deatheaters all had similar expressions on their face, fear, shock, panic and disbelief. This wasn't their reaction to the curse or it's effects on the viction but to it's caster, to me, to who I used to be, not to Haiden Gaunt Slytherin-son of the Dark Lord but to the man formerly known as Harry Potter. It wasn't something to worry about, the repercussions of Bellatrix's disrespect was enough to shut down any future questions related to my past.
My eyes fazed through the occupants before they landed on elegantly slicked back blonde hair. Draco, my mate, the one that magic herself made for me. His skin was dimmed due to the suppressants but nothing I couldn't see through. I looked for his reaction, eyes wide, he watched enthralled as Bellatrix writhed and twisted in pain, his gaze filled with curiosity, a twisted glint in his assessment of the situation. He didn't meet my gaze, no, but he knew I was looking at him, the dust of pink on the otherwise porcelain skin confirmed enough. I didn't take my eyes off of him, I couldn't bring myself to, nor would I even if I could.
It was my father's command that interrupted my momentary daze, it wasn't out of care for Bellatrix or anger at me taking over the meeting but as a reminder of my position. I was The Dark Lord's son but most important of all, I was his heir and I couldn't afford to be distracted, not now, not ever. Not when my integrity can still be questioned. I let go of the curse as my father took charge of the meeting, discussing the future plans, now that I had arrived. The air was heavy and dark as the puzzle pieces started to come together, there was much to do, and not enough time to enjoy them.
I let Draco's reaction play in the back of my head. It would surely be an interesting conversation, one I would have to unfortunately postpone. This was enough excitement for my first deatheaters meeting.
