"Nightmares?"
Dr. Garaki stands in front of me, examining my healing wounds. He lifts my injured arm – which is, as he's said, healing nicely and is now sporting fewer bandages – and slowly bends it. It is stiff and still partly numb, but tenderness is starting to claim various areas.
I wince. "Yes." I look at him. "To be honest, I don't really remember everything that happened before I was rescued. Don't get me wrong. I remember most of it. The incident. The twins taking me. I even remember most of my time in the building, but..." Dr. Garaki looks at me, almost expectingly. I sigh. "I don't know what happened that final evening."
He observes me for several seconds. Just this funny, quirky little man. I've heard his name many times while aiding the PLF, but I have never actually seen the man. Not until this whole ordeal. And I must say, he oddly fits my imagination. A bald little man with a thick mustache and thick goggle-like glasses resting on the bridge of his pointed nose.
"So, you can't remember bits and pieces. Is that what you're saying?" he asks, taking a seat on his little stool. The metal creaks and screeches.
I nod. "Yes. I guess that's what I'm saying."
He once again observes me, tapping his finger as he does so. "Do you suspect these nightmares might be hinting at something?"
I open my mouth to answer but stop. Images of Asahi flash through my mind. That twisted smirk on his lips. The vile stench of his breath on my skin. The bruises of his fingertips on my hips.
It was only recently that I've been able to examine my own body more, and I have found several little bruises littering my legs and hips. With each new one discovered, my heart always sinks a little more.
"I...don't know," I finally say. I feel defeated. "I don't know what they mean. I hope they don't mean anything. But...could they?"
Almost immediately I regret asking that because, do I really want to know that? Do I really want to poke that bear and see what happens? Then again, maybe if I get some answers, these dreams might stop.
Dr. Garaki once again observes me, then sighs. "During a normal circumstance, what I'm about to tell you would have gone differently. That said, please understand that we had no indication when you would wake, and if we wanted to find any evidence, then we needed to act fast."
I knit my brows. "Act fast?" For a moment, I don't understand what he is talking about, but then my eyes widen. "Oh. You had to... You did a kit?"
"Well, I didn't. I had a female medical professional who is loyal to the PLF perform it." He shifts his posture, folding his hands neatly. "The good news is, she couldn't find any traces of semen or any other foreign fluids. And she saw no signs of any forced entry or trauma. So, the likeliness of anything having happened is unlikely. At least, nothing through intercourse." He lets out a hardy breath. "Make no mistake. You were still most likely assaulted, but not through penetration. If that makes sense."
How does that make sense? How could that possibly make sense? None of this makes any sense.
Sure. According to the kit's results, Asahi – I'm assuming him because of these dreams – didn't get to go through with anything. That's a win. I won't discredit that fact. However, there was a moment in time when he almost did. After all, isn't that why I was found naked? I bet they thought I wouldn't learn that bit. Toga told me when I pressed her for answers earlier.
And they must have been worried enough to do a kit and full examination while I was out cold. So, as much as I hate to admit it, yes, I was assaulted. However, at least it wasn't completed full circle.
