You laid on your bed, waiting for your girlfriend, Test Tube to join you. You watched as she sat at her desk, writing about her science stuff and her experiments. She had a tendency to stay up late or not even sleep at all when doing this. It was rare to see her by your side when you woke up.
This time you weren't going to let that happen.
"Test Tube, dear, come to bed please." You pleaded to her.
"Not right now, (O/n). I'm busy." She replied, still turned to her desk as she wrote.
"Test Tube, it's late." You replied, frustrated by how she disregarded you. "You need to get your sleep." You were genuinely concerned that she stays up so late doing this, barely without breaks. This definitely isn't healthy. Plus, you're lonely here.
She sighed. "I'll join you in a moment. Just let me finish this first."
"You said that last time! And when I woke up a few hours later, you were STILL at your desk." You replied, now annoyed. "Look, I get that you're dedicated to your science stuff, but you've got to take care of yourself too!"
Test Tube finally turned to look at you with her tired eyes. She saw the hurt and frustration on your face, and she felt a pang of guilt. She knew you loved her, and she loved you too. But she also loved her science, and she couldn't help being obsessed with it.
"Golly, I'm sorry, (O/n)." She said softly. "I don't mean to ignore you. It's just that...this is important to me. You know how much I love science, right?"
You nodded, but you still felt unsatisfied. "I know, Test Tube. And I respect that. But you also have to respect yourself, and me. You can't keep doing this to yourself, or to us. You need balance in your life."
Test Tube bit her lip, knowing you were right. She got up from her desk and put in her cork. She took off her glasses and lab coat. Then she walked over to you, wrapped her arms around you, and kissed you gently.
"You're right, (O/n). I'm sorry. I love you." She whispered.
You smiled and hugged her back, feeling her warmth and softness. You kissed her back and pulled her into bed with you, cuddling with her under the covers.
"I love you too, Test Tube." You replied.
You both fell asleep in each other's arms, happy and content.
