--------------------You haven't been feeling yourself lately.
You've been unmotivated. You felt like you were trying to swim to the surface but kept getting dragged down. You couldn't even bring yourself to talk to your teammates or participate in the challenges because it just felt like a heavy weight on your shoulders you couldn't bear to hold. You lacked behind in the challenges, sometimes even calling it quits. You're surprised that you weren't even voted out yet. Yet eventually, your teammates started to notice your behavior.
You sat on the soft grass as it prickled your skin. The teams had finished a challenge and unsurprisingly, yours lost again, setting everyone up for elimination. The sun was setting as you watched everyone socialize with each other. Suddenly, you started to tear up as you thought about the times you let your team down. They probably thought of you as dead weight. You buried your face into your hands, starting to sob. As you cried, you didn't even notice the light footsteps behind you.
"(O/n)?" a raspy voice called behind you.
Startled by the sudden voice, you let out a startled yelp. Quickly attempting to wipe away the tears were futile as they stayed face. Turning around, you saw your teammate, Fries behind you with a concerned look on his face.
"Oh! Hey, Fries. What- what are you doing here..?" you asked, putting on a small smile.
"I've decided to check on you. Me and the others have noticed that you're giving your best in the challenges," he said in his raspy voice before taking a seat on the spot next to you.
"I'm fine! Just a bad day, that's all," you say, which obviously wasn't enough to convince him.
"No you're not," he replied crossing his arms. "We've been set up for elimination 3 times now and you've been slacking off!"
You flinch at his voice raising and turn away from him, eyes starting to water.
"I'm sorry."
His face softens at your reaction. He lets out a sigh before hesitantly putting a hand on your shoulder.
"No, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you," he replied sympathetically, concern in his voice. "Here," he said, reaching his hand to one of his fries and handing it to you in attempt to cheer you up.
"But I thought-"
He cuts you off. "It's fine. I can make a new one."
You smile at him before taking a bite of the fry. He smiles back before speaking.
"So, what's wrong? Me and the others see that you've been.. behind, and I want to help."
You take a deep breath before replying. "It's just..," you sniffled, trying to compose yourself. "I feel like I have a constant burden on me, y'know? Everything I do feels like a chore. It's like.. I can't find my way out," you reply honestly, tears starting to come out.
Fries nodded sympathetically as he listened to your words. He isn't the best at comforting people, but he tries his best.
"It's okay to feel that way," he replies, thinking over his words. "But we're a team. We're here to support each other. You don't have to do this alone, (O/n)."
You nod softly, feeling better, but also embarrassed. "I.. I didn't want to burden anyone. I don't want to be dead weight. I'll try to do better."
He smiles. "That's all you need to do. We're all in this together."
"Thank you," you reply, bringing him into a hug.
Fries hugged you back, the both of you in each others embrace. There was a calm silence between the both of you, the sun had finally set. Stars filled the sky, most of the contestants gone back to their rooms.
Maybe you can have a second chance at this.
