[Phraea's POV]
"The court will now announce the verdicts. Verdict on count one, we, the jury being duly impaneled sworn, finding the defendant, Louise Achivar... not guilty of murder as he stands charged in count one of the indictment dated the second of March 2021 signed by all 12 members of the panel..."
Nakahinga ako nang maluwag at dinig ko ang pagdiwang ng kliyente ko at ng kanyang pamilya matapos marinig ang desisyon mula sa judge.
Nakangiti lang ako nang maluwag at ramdam ko ang pangingilid ng aking mga luha habang patuloy pa ang judge sa pagbasa ng mga verdicts.
"Congratulations, Bautista!"
Tipid akong kumaway at ngumiti sa mga kasamahan ko sa firm. I'm happy for myself and for my client who was accused for killing his own wife and kid. Ang totoong maysala ay hindi pa nahuhuli pero kompirmado na hindi sangkot sa krimen ang aking kliyente.
"Want to celebrate outside, Attorney?"
"I'm sorry, but my daughter requests my presence."
Hindi matanggal-tanggal ang ngiti ko habang papauwi. Justice was serve again, thank God!
"Lola!" Agad akong sinalubong ng hagikhik ng three-year-old na bata. Nakabuka ang mga braso nito habang tumatakbo patungo sa aking direksyon.
"Hello there, my sweet Phlare. Did you missed Lola?" I carried her and gave her a long kiss on the cheek that made her giggle.
"Saw you on TV!" She proudly said with amusement in her eyes.
"Really?"
"Yeah, you smiled!"
"Yes, because Lola was so happy. She saved a man from being imprisoned." I said and she nodded her head as if she understands what I'm saying.
"My!"
Karga-karga ko ang aking apo na pumasok ng bahay nung marinig ko ang pagtawag sa akin ni Paige.
"Congratulations!" Nagulat ako dahil sa mga pagkaing nakahanda. Maligaya akong niyakap ni Paige at ng kanyang asawa na si Malcolm.
"Oh, Paige, you didn't have to prepare all of these."
"Come on, My. You were all over the news and everyone was so proud for what you did. I am also... so proud for what you did." Paige kissed me on the cheeks before taking Phlare from me.
"It's too early pa for dinner." Ani ko dahil hindi pa madilim ay nakahanda na ang mga pagkain.
"Why don't we visit Paige's Dad instead to kill some time before dinner?" Suhestiyon ni Malcolm na hindi ko naman tinanggihan.
It's been 13 years since Garen's execution. Masakit tanggapin lalo na sa lugar ni Paige, but instead of dwelling on what happened, inabala namin ni Paige ang aming mga sarili. Tinutukan ko ang pag-aaral ng abogasya habang si Paige naman ay nag-review nang maigi para sa mga papasukang entrance exams sa college.
