"Ana." Matt said firmly.
I looked up from Charlotte at him. "Yes?"
"I said the doctor still needs to talk to you."
"I know Matt, we've already spoken. My kidney function is gradually going up and in a few days I should be off the dialysis."
"I know, but he needs to discuss other things with you, he said he's tried but you're always preoccupied." He told me.
"Well excuse me for wanting to give our daughter my undivided attention." I snapped.
"Ana." He said softly, walking over to the bed. "Please don't get angry at me."
I looked at him, how could I be angry at Matt?
"I'm sorry."
"Okay." He murmured, kissing me softly. "Now will you speak to him?"
I closed my eye's, enjoying his kiss. "I guess." I murmured against his lips.
"Good."
"Just let me feed Charlotte first."
He sighed. "Okay, I'll get a bottle."
I watched him walk out of the room, then I looked down at Charlotte, she was perfect. I'd been awake for two day's now and already I knew her routine. She didn't cry much when she was hungry, she would just start fidgeting, and now she was fidgeting, if Matt didn't hurry she would start crying and when she cried, the whole world knew about it.
Matt came in and handed me a bottle, as usual it was the perfect temperature and I was amazed once again at his natural fathering abilities.
I got it into Charlottes mouth before the screaming began and I looked down at her, watching her eye's getting heavier.
"Hello Ana." The doctor said, walking into the room.
I smiled at him. "Hi."
"She's doing so well." He said, looking at Charlotte.
I nodded, she really was.
"Let me." Matt said holding out his arms.
I handed her over and he kissed my forehead. "Should I stay?" He asked nobody in particular.
A look passed between him and the doctor and the doctor nodded slightly.
I suddenly felt a little anxious. What did he want to talk to me about?
"So Ana, we've discussed your kidney complications and well that's looking good anyway." He told me. "What we haven't discussed are the complications that arose from Charlottes birth."
I of all people knew there were complications. "Such as?"
Matt walked over and grabbed my hand and I looked up at him questioningly.
"As you know Ana you hemorrhaged during the birth and we had to take you straight up to surgery."
I nodded, of course I knew that.
"Ana." He said softly. "We couldn't stop the bleeding."
I nodded, I mean obviously they did stop the bleeding.
"Ana, we had to do a hysterectomy."
I looked at him and he looked down at his feet.
Matt suddenly squeezed my hand and I snatched my hand out of his.
"We did everything we could Ana, but we had no other option."
"Nothing?" I snapped.
They couldn't do anything so they just decided to take away my ability to have anymore children?
"We tried, but we would have lost you."
"Perhaps that would have been better." I said.
"Ana, don't." Matt said, but I ignored him.
"Leave." I said flatly.
He nodded and walked out, closing the door.
"Ana." Matt started, but I cut him off.
"Leave."
"Ana, no." He said.
"Get out."
"Ana, don't do this."
I ignored him, waiting for him to leave, but of course he didn't.
I layed down, turning over to face the window.
What sort of woman was I if I couldn't have anymore children?
Once again I was a failure.
