Ghosts Bailed On Them

The music started blurring in Riya's mind, becoming only a slight ringing to the awful melody of her worry filled thoughts.

Nine o'clock hit, Julie and Riya inspecting every last corner of the school in case the guys forgot where the auditorium was, but they weren't even on school grounds in general.

By the time the pair reached the backstage with their last flairs of hope in finding the guys backstage. Riya and Julie came to realize it was also empty salve their pretend hologram projector, Riya's guitar and Flynn's beats bouncing across the walls so loudly Riya could almost see the strings of sound move around her.

"Is everybody fired up for Julie and the Phantoms?" The crowd cheered in response while Julie's mouth fell open in a shocked smile which cheered Riya even the smallest of amounts.

It was now set, they were a band, they liked it or not. And by how even Julie appeared to be cheering up thanks to the newly found name, they definitely liked being a band.

"Great! Keep that fire 'cause that's later. We're a bit behind schedule, but don't worry, just enjoy these mind-blowing beats." Flynn switched up the music to something more upbeat and the crowd roared in approval before returning to their dancing around the auditorium, giving Flynn enough time to run and chat with her freshly returned friends.

"Julie and the Phantoms?" Flynn shrugged, sporting a smile which certainly alleviated Riya's tense mood.

"I had some free time in French class and ran it past Riya. She loved it," Julie looked over at Riya to check if Flynn wasn't exaggerating, which she technically was a little between Flynn's inexistent pause and Riya actually liking the name, Julie didn't get any explicit answers. "And you'd better like it because I registered it on Insta, Snapchat, Twitter..."

"No, I love it. But I'd love it even more if the actual Phantoms were here." In the snap of their fingers the tense mood seethed on them, the smiles being wiped off their faces.

"Well you still got the living phantom," Julie gave a half-hearted chuckle, leaning her head against Riya's shoulder with her eyes glued upon the empty stage as she sighed.

It was hard to enjoy such an amazing school dance knowing you were supposed to be on stage playing with your freshly created band rocking the very floor off the audience's feet. And instead you were backstage with worry eating you alive and the obsessive feeling of something going wrong jabbing you in the face.

Suddenly Riya saw Flynn's eyes widening, thinking she had miraculously spotted the guys Riya snapped her head over her shoulder to face the doors, instead she found Nick expectantly looking at Julie. Most likely going for a conversation.

Flynn didn't even hesitate before scampering away back to the DJ booth, rather facing the dancing crowd than Julie being awkward with Nick. Riya having the same train of thought didn't want to witness whatever embarrassment Julie was going to make of herself, although she didn't want to face the crowd either, so she went with option C.

"I'm going to do a lap see if I can find anyone." Before Julie could question her actions or wording, Riya walked away, giving Nick a quick friendly smile as she brushed past him before exiting the backstage altogether.

Riya's sneakers squeaked against the polished floor of the school, gaining the attention of the few odd students hiding away from the noise of the auditorium, but she paid them no mind, instead hunching over to stare at her phone.
