Ghosts Left
Her Breathless▶︎ •၊၊||၊|။||||။၊|• 3:15
Riya paced the back of the closed garage door nervously, holding her guitar by the neck towards her side.
She could faintly hear Alex and Reggie having a muttered conversation while Julie hummed to the lyrics by the side, but the most distracting out of everything had to be the burning stare which followed her every step, one she was fairly positive belonged to Luke.
Yet, Riya was determined to follow Flynn's instructions, not to even look Luke in the eye and avoid all potential of a spark lighting up inside her.
"Riya," A whisper-yell caught her attention, Julie motioning for her to come towards her side to which she quickly obliged, leaning down to Julie's sat down height to keep the hushed conversation going.
"Can I ask for a favour? I know you already asked for one but—"
"Anything, Julie." Riya interrupted, much to Julie's relief, who grinned in return at her friend, slamming the sheet of lyrics against her stomach for her to grab.
"Could you sing the bridge, half of the last chorus, and the outro? My throat is kind of weird right now," Just to prove Julie coughed into her fist, however Riya had been sick enough times to know she was exaggerating the dry cough only further proving it with her stuck out tongue until she returned to the same smile while rubbing at her throat. "Must have been all the screaming."
Riya didn't believe Julie in the slightest, but she liked to think she had come to know Julie enough to know how she wouldn't willingly give up three essential parts of the song just out of a whim. Besides, Julie was already doing her the favour of keeping her distracted from Luke, it was only fair Riya helped her with the song.
"Alright, fine. I'll do it." Julie grinned and shot her a thumbs up, but by the way her eyes weren't focused on Riya but instead over her shoulder, she supposed it wasn't meant for her. Possibly, Ray or Flynn signalling they were ready to go.
Whatever the case, Riya didn't care and instead went to focus on the song to try to figure out how to approach her new bits considering they had been banking on Julie's incredibly high notes Riya could only dream of reaching.
However, something caught her eye before she even made it to the bridge.
The title had been changed.
"Edge of Great?" Julie shrugged, pushing herself to her feet while she reached for her microphone set on the coffee table.
"Uh, yeah, Luke changed the name at the last second, said it sounded better that way." Riya desperately fought the instinct which told her to turn around and try to find any sign as to why he had changed the title of the song he was so adamant on keeping it named as Great.
An unsolved mystery.
Although before she could even consider it, Riya was saved by Flynn's voice from the outside, indicating the beginning of the show.
"What's up, everybody," Julie and Riya scrambled towards the entrance, gripping at each other's free hands after Riya sent the lyrics Julie had given her flying. She'd figure out a way to improvise on the spot.
"Time to put your hands up, do a little dance, yup," Riya chuckled at Flynn's rhymes, feeling her hands begin to sweat out of nerves even before she had faced the crowd. "Here's the new anthem from Julie and the Phantoms."
Immediately Riya froze, and if it were not for Julie dragging her towards the set-up she would have remained rooted in the spot. She had severely underestimated Flynn's influence, she could swear at least a quarter of the school was present in Julie's garage expectantly waiting for the new song.
