Chapter 19: Anonymous Encounters

[Y/n's PoV]

I was currently at the peak of Mt. Kanna, fixing the lyre's strings so that I could make another song with it, however, just by doing so, I sensed two presence entering the island so I decided to stop what I was doing and look down to see Aether and that flying pet.

"Hey, Y/n! Where are you? We have something to tell you! It's urgent!"

What could he be up to?

I'm not sure what that it could be, but I make my way over to him regardless.

"What is it? Make it quick though since I'm busy."

"Well, we came to warn you about these strange forces lurking around each islands." His companion spoke for him.

"And?"

"...And we wanted to ask for your assistance-"

"Hmm, I'll pass."

"Hey! Paimon wasn't even done talking!"

"But now you were." I spoke in a mocking tone while I could hear Aether sighed then approached me.

"We're being serious. Your island could also be in danger."

"Oh? But I don't see anything out of the ordinary here. See?"

I let them take a quick look.

"Now, shoo. I don't want anyone to disturb my peace."

"Hey! Just wait a minute! We're here since we've been sent by that sly fox to-"

...?

While she was talking, I suddenly sensed another presence nearby. A dangerous one.

"Shh."

"Stop interrupting Pai-"

"Quiet!" My voice suddenly turned cold.

"It seems that you two were not the only one who set foot on Tsurumi island."

While keeping my guard up, I saw an incoming strange arrow, aiming at Aether so I quickly rushed in front of him and use my elemental energy to destroy it.

Soon, a group of strange monsters holding a huge bow suddenly show itself along with some rifthounds.

This flying child then folded her arms and deadpanned at me.

"You were saying?"

"Shut it, or I'll throw you to the rifthounds myself."

After my statement, she suddenly went quiet while Aether and I summoned our weapons.

"It's an Abyss Herald. This is what were trying to discuss with you that all islands were currently being invaded."

"Hmm, your flying pet mentioned that the kitsune send you here?" I asked him.

"Well, yes since she wanted to talk to you in person and was requesting for your presence back at the Grand Narukami Shrine."

"...I see. I'll think about it after we fend them off."

Aether nodded at my statement as we both make our stance in front of the monsters. We both fight in sync, our efforts complementing each other. Aether's attacks always manage to hit their mark, while mine kept any of the monsters from getting near him.

The rifthounds charge at me, trying to bite me apart, so Aether immediately responds by summoning his electro elemental energy, blasting the rifthounds away with it.
