"The roof? How cliché." I winked and giggled.
Jack put on a terribly fake English accent, "Oh, I'm awfully sorry! Would the princess prefer a lavish castle garden?"
I couldn't help but laugh, making him break character and join me.
"It's beautiful, Jack." I sighed happily, looking around. There was a single wall light by the door, providing the perfect ambiance. It was around 10, and the sky had become dotted with a million tiny stars. I could almost see the entire city from the nightclub's top. I walked towards the edge, where a large wall around a metre tall stood. I pulled out my phone and took yet another photo of the incredible view. I sat down with my back up against the wall, hugging my knees. The harsh April breeze stung my skin, making me shiver.
"Cold?" Jack said, joining me.
"I'm ok..."
"No you're not, come here." He removed his suit jacket revealing his tight shirt and tie, which he'd paired with black skinny jeans so as not to appear too formal. He wrapped it around my shoulders, and rested his arm across my back. I leant into him, feeling perfectly at ease.
"You've got a thing about taking photos, haven't you?" Jack looked down at me, "Why is that?"
"You have to preserve moments, make them last. That photo I just took, I'll look back at it in 10 years or so and remember this night. That's the power that photos have." I smiled, he nodded and smiled back.
"Do you know something?" I changed the subject.
"Hmm?"
"I've never been this relaxed with someone I've just met before... I feel the same about all four of you though- It's as though I've known you for years. But then again- I've known about you for a quarter of my life!"
He smiled and we sat quietly for a few minutes.
I broke the silence, "Tonight has been so fucking surreal... I mean, I met my favourite band and I'm now sat with one of them-"
"The best looking and funniest one!"
I laughed, "I'm sat with you in a moment that feels like something from a fucking movie! It's incredible."
He laughed happily and changed the subject, "So, I guess I need to know more. About you and the guys."
"Ok, um... What d'you wanna know?"
"Family, relationships, when you met- things like that."
"We've known each other since 8th grade, but the band wasn't formed until we were 15- Ben was younger, of course. Uh... I'm the only one with a sister."
"How old?"
"27. But don't even think about looking her up and falling in love like everyone else!" I laughed half-heartedly, slightly upset at the reality of it. He must have seen the sadness in my eyes.
"I wouldn't dream of it- you're too beautiful..."
I felt myself blushing, and thanked god that it was too dark for him to see.
"Any boyfriend prospects?"
"Is that your not so subtle way of asking me if I'm single?" We both laughed, "No, I do not have a boyfriend."
"How old are you all now, then?" He looked away.
"22. Barr Ben who's only 20 bless him!" I laughed.
He nodded, smiling and took his arm away from my back, and got to his feet.
"Let's dance!" Jack said, holding his arm out to me.
"Dance? Firstly, I'm a shit dancer. Secondly- there's no music!"
"I don't give a fuck. Stand up." I took his hand and he span me around. He pulled me close, cupping his hands around my waist; I wrapped my arms around his neck, just managing to reach as I was way shorter than him.
We stayed like that for what felt like forever, simply swaying back and forth.
He pulled away and checked the time on his phone, "Almost midnight- we should probably get you home..."
"Yeah." I sighed.
We started back down the stairs, and Jack curled his fingers round mine. I didn't look at him, but a smile took over my face. We went through the now sparse club- so many people had left.
We got out to the parking lot and Jack opened the passenger door of his car for me. He walked around and got into the driver's seat.
I directed him to the flat I shared with Sam, and he turned off the engine.
"Thank you Jack."
"No problem- I couldn't exactly tell you to make your own way home!"
"I don't just mean the ride. I mean... For inviting us to the party, spending the night with me when you had all your friends-" I was cut off by Jack grabbing my cheek and pressing his lips to mine.
